Right now, PGH NJ is in the middle of its multi-part season recap of the Shore Conference, one of the best in the state, top-to-bottom.
We’re through the first four pods in the Shore, which leads us to Pods 5 and 6, where we’ll be taking a closer look at the best players among those two pods during the 2021 season.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ – G, St. John Vianney
St. Rose was arguably the consensus best player in the state during the 2019-20 season, and she backed up the recognition in 2021, being the best player on the best team in the state. SJV ran the table this season, going a perfect 14-0 and St. Rose had herself quite a junior year, averaging 19.4 PPG, 4.7 RPG and 2.9 SPG this season. She was firing on all cylinders, a crafty scorer with a knack for dribble drives in the lane, resulting in many scoring opportunities. She can shoot it from the outside, mans the point well and makes opponents uncomfortable on defense. Everything you’re looking for in a complete guard, St. Rose has and then some.
Julia Corsentino Julia Corsentino 5'9" | SG Rumson-Fair Haven | 2023 State NJ – G, Rumson-Fair Haven
It was a breakout season for the sophomore guard, averaging 13.7 PPG for Rumson-Fair Haven, along with knocking down nearly 2.5 three-pointers a game. She was RFH’s go-to outside scorer and the overall points leader this season. Corsentino is a masterful shooting guard, knocking down shots from just about anywhere on the perimeter. She moves really well off-ball to situate herself to knock down shot after shot. Not to be discounted, but her nearly five rebounds a game and 2.3 steals a game balanced her play on the court. She’s not just a three-point shooter, but a multi-faceted guard who is a playmaker and a game-changer.
Chloe Teter – G/F, Red Bank Regional
Teter had quite the senior send-off during the 2021 season, joining the 1000 point club and averaging a career-high in points per game. Her 14.1 PPG led Red Bank, as well as her nearly 1.7 made three-pointers a game, also a career-high. Teter has been known as an outside threat throughout her high school career, and that was never more true than this season, where she was clicking on all cylinders, tiring out defenses on the offensive end and creating uncomfortable mismatches on the defensive end. She put on a clinic for RBR and was rewarded with stellar play throughout and a cherry on top of her high school career.
Madison LaRosa – G/F, Shore
LaRosa has been a star for Shore over the last four years, and this year capped off that incredible career as very early on, she became the newest member of the school’s 1000 point club. She averaged 16.7 PPG, 2.5 SPG and nearly two made threes a game this season. While Shore struggled this season, dealing with Covid-19 related problems that sidelined the team for several weeks, LaRosa never lost the competitive drive she began the season with. It was beyond impressive watching her shoot the ball this season, and she’s one who isn’t afraid to be physical in the lane and draw contact. She fought till the very end and was rewarded in a big way with incredible success on the court.
Shayne Eldridge – G, Wall
Wall was led by a duo of impressive freshman this season, Emily Tvrdik and Eldridge, who led the team in scoring, outside shooting, assists and steals. Eldridge led the team in all four categories, with Tvrdik following closely behind in second. The guard averaged nearly 13.0 PPG, 2.5 APG, 3.1 SPG and 1.4 made threes a game, already blossoming into a superstar to keep an eye for in this program for the next three years. She plays an aggressive, in your face, defense and when the ball is in her hands on offense, she’s finding a way to score. Eldridge drives well and already shows a level of poise when handling possession at the top of the key that one would see in a junior or senior. Her high school career is just beginning.
