Continue ReadingThe state A tournament was highly entertaining and had some great matchups along the way. I’m probably a little biased as I’m an alma mater of state champion Aberdeen Roncalli. So I had a horse in the race. Roncalli’s stingy defense was suffocating, even for the most talented guards in the state. Unfortunately, the state A tournament stats are not posted on DakStats at the moment, so this post is more of an analysis of the top performers.
Haleigh Timmer Haleigh Timmer 5'11" | SF St. Thomas More | 2021 State SD – St. Thomas More – (5’11/Wing/2021) – South Dakota State University commit – Timmer did what Timmer does in the state tournament. She may be the most consistent scorer in the state. It’s rare if she doesn’t put up a 20 point performance. She single handily carried the scoring for St. Thomas More in their matchup against the defensive stingy Aberdeen Roncalli.
Madelyn Bragg Madelyn Bragg 6'3" | C Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD – Aberdeen Roncalli – (6’2/C/2022) – Northern State University verbal commit – According to a source, she will not be playing for a club team this offseason because she already verbally committed to NSU. She’s athletic and moves well at a long 6’2. A defensive force that can also finish inside offensively. Aberdeen Roncalli will be a tough out next year and Madelyn is the key piece for the returning state champs. She’s our #4 2022 prospect and could potentially move up 1 spot to #3.
Reese Ross Reese Ross 6'1" | SF St. Thomas More | 2023 State SD – St. Thomas More – (6’0/Wing/2023) – North Tartan Nike EYBL – Reese made a name for herself in the state tournament to the average spectators as a skilled and athletic wing. What was the most impressive was Reese’s ability to handle the ball and make plays in the open court. She has D1 athleticism and will work to refine her skills even more to become a complete prospect. Lots of potential and she’s already our #2 ranked 2023 prospect. She’s great for South Dakota high school girls basketball and its future in the state.
Morgan Fiedler Morgan Fiedler 5'8" | PG Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD – Aberdeen Roncalli – (5’7/PG/2022) – Morgan is a tenacious yet sound on-ball defender and that was a big reason, along with Bragg, why Roncalli secured a state championship. She will pickup defensively as the point guard crosses half court holding her defensive ground, making the point guard make a strong move to gain separation. She was recently offered from Division II Northern State University. She should be moving up our rankings a few spots in our next rankings update with her two-way ability.
