Abigail Tomaski Abigail Tomaski 6'0" | SG Memorial | 2023 State TX -6’0 (Just Play Elite) 2023
Tomaski is one of those players I’ve had the opportunity to watch since her freshman season and one thing I knew she could do was to shoot the ball and I love big guards that can shoot it but as I stress over and over, college coaches are offering scholarships and they love that too but over the years, just being able to shoot was not enough and she had the total package on display during the event. She creates her shot off the dribble to drop the jumper or attack the rim yet what I’m seeing even more of is her ability to create contact, and finish that’s huge because it makes her an “and one” waiting to happen
Jamesia St John Prine (Unity Basketball 2023-2) 2023
St John-Prine does something I love to see players do, catch and shoot with accuracy and her quick release and ability to fill it up in droves made me stop by and watch her every time I was passing by. She also attacks the rim strongly and finishes with contact but her body control while finishing deserves to be mentioned because she simply finds ways to put the ball in the basket which t what scorers do. She does a good job creating her shot in the half-court and that stop and pop in transition is nice
Tiea Chatman-5’3 (Texas Lady Hoopsters 2023) 2024
Chatman wasn’t the only player on her team that was a scorer, I also liked Paris Beard who shaved through the defense for baskets, and yes, pun intended but I’m giving the nod this go-round to Chatman because she was “ice” under pressure and came up with some huge baskets. Yes, she attacks the rim and finishes after the lick and yes, she understands how to create her shot under pressure for the mid to long-range but she wanted the ball in crunch time and she delivered, even though her team lost by 1, she sent a message
Hollie Ladd-5’8 (Oklahoma Trotters 2023) 2023
Ladd definitely showed me a few things during the event yet her ability to shoot the midrange probably made me smile more than anything else because when you can knock that shot down consistently, trust mem that will open many next-level doors because it’s a lost art. She can create her shot being tightly defended, she even showed a step back but her deceptive first step was pretty neat as well because it kept defenders guessing on whether she would attack or drop it
Monica Marsh Monica Marsh 5'6" | CG Plano West | 2023 State TX -5’5 (Platinum Basketball 2023 Walker) 2023
Marsh didn’t score a bundle of points yet in every game yet she does something I love to see, she scored in the flow and when you’re on a team with a variety of offensive weapons, it’s impressive that you “get it” especially in this era and with her BB-IQ and ability “play within herself” she made thing happen multipole ways yet in transition she hit the “stop and pop” or attack and finish, that includes after contact yet she also could curl around picks and drop the mid to long-range effortlessly
