Over the next few days, I will take a look at some of the players I got a chance to see while I was at Sports Plus on Saturday as I made my way around the variety of games.
Today a look at point guards from teams in the PGH coverage area.
Point Guards who shined
Sidney Morris Sidney Morris 5'6" | CG Carlisle | 2022 OH , 5-7 2022, Cincinnati Heat Premier
A familiar face to me after seeing her play a few times during the season, Sidney (pictured right) pulled double duty coming from a softball game to play her first game on Saturday. She showcased her range and her perimeter shooting, she also possessed good handles and is athletic enough to make plays for her team. Able to get to the rim, and a good on-ball defender.
Kaia Woods Kaia Woods 5'9" | CG Hopewell Loudon | 2020 OH , 5-3 2022, Sports City U 17
She moved to Canada for high school, but she really showcased her overall point guard skills for SCU. I was very impressed with what I saw, total command of the game, able to penetrate and score. Very quick first step making her difficult to defend. Her passing was second to none. Creates off her defensive pressure and can fly down the floor in transition. The real deal.
Sinai Douglas, 5-7 2024, Sports City U 15
First time I have seen her play for the younger Sports City U team, very impressed with the poise and skill development for Sinai. She is a point guard who loves to push the ball north-south with good speed and handles. She has very strong court awareness and a nose for the ball at all times. She is all over the place and her stock continues to rise.
Janiyah Tucker, 5-4 2023, Memphis Elite
Very impressive complete guard who was in total control of the game while she was on the floor. Incredible quickness and an elite guard with next level handles. She was poised and the leader of the team. Able to get to the rim and finish with either hand. Defensively, creates havoc and turns opportunities into points for her team.
Sarah Ochs Sarah Ochs 5'5" | CG Dayton Carroll | 2022 State OH , 5-6 2022, All-In Painter
She showed her leadership like she always does in big games. Sarah is a next level guard with a very high basketball IQ and advanced skill set. Dangerous behind the arc, can also score from the midrange. One thing I like is her ability to control the tempo of the game for her team. Knows how to win and lead. Great defender and difference maker.
