In the COVID-19 2020 world we are living in, video and highlight films have become more and more prominent and important. We will be posting evaluations from the videos weekly. This month, we take a look at some of the new highlight videos that have been sent to us or posted in April.
2021 Lindsey Weingard Lindsey Weingard 5'6" | PG Dr Krop | 2021 State FL (Krop HS / Miami Suns) 5’7 Guard
Weingard wrapped up a stellar prep career at Krop surpassing 1,500 career points and being recognized as a McDonald’s All American Nominee averaging 22.0 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 5.2 APG, 4.0 SPG and shooting 37% from 3 for her Senior season. She is a prolific scorer who can drop buckets in a hurry when she gets hot from deep. She does a good job staying shot ready and has ability to knock it down from several feet beyond the 3-point line. She is an aggressive penetrator who looks to attack in the full court and half court. I love the way she plays with little fear on the offensive end and finds multiple ways to put the ball in the bucket. She is active on the defensive end and will run through passing lanes and pick opposing teams pockets if they don’t protect the ball.
2022 Katie Ambrose Katie Ambrose 5'5" | PG Gulf Coast | 2022 State FL (Gulf Coast HS / Tampa Thunder) 5’5 Guard
Ambrose appeared in all 28 games for Gulf Coast, helping lead them to a 22-6 record. The 5’5 Point Guard averaged 10.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 5.6 APG, 2.5 SPG and is one of the state’s top point guards in the 2022 class. She continues to improve every time I see her displaying her impressive combination of court vision, basketball IQ, and passing skills. She is a pass first point guard who is a good decision maker and likes to set her teammates for easy buckets. She likes to play out of ball screens and does a good job changing speed and direction off the dribble. She is a crafty finisher at the rim, displaying her ability to finish with ball the left and right hand. She plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor with a lot of passion and energy and is an extension of the head coach with her communication and leadership.
2022 Kyleigh Welsh Kyleigh Welsh 6'3" | PF Clearwater HS | 2022 State FL (Clearwater High School / Tampa Thunder)
Versatile forward/ wing who is long and active. She uses her length very well at the rim and walls defenders up either blocking or deflecting players shots (often with two hands). She is active on the glass and has a nose to be around the ball. Her length, activity level, and shot blocking are her biggest strengths. She is developing the offensive side of her game but has shown an improved 15-foot range, ability to put the ball to the floor from the high post and grab a defensive rebound and start the break. 2024 Khadee Hession Khadee Hession 5'10" | CG St Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State FL (American Heritage Delray / Essence) 5’9 Guard
10.1 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 5.5 APG, 2.9 SPG and shot 37% from 3 going 20/54 on the season helping lead American Heritage to a 13-5 record. She was the team’s 3rd leading scorer and had several big games. She played both the point guard and shooting guard position for the Stallions displaying her 3-point range, handle in the open court, and ability to finish in traffic. She is very athletic and active on both ends, has good court vision, and a versatile scorer. She was a big part of American Heritage’s success this season and look for her role to increase next season. Video from Ballislife.com.
2025 Gianna Robles Gianna Robles 5'3" | PG Doral Academy | 2025 State FL (Doral Academy / Miami Suns) 5’1 Guard
Robles stepped onto the varsity scene as an 8th grader earning herself a starting position, appearing in all 23 of Doral Academy’s games, averaging 7.6 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 1.3 APG, and 1.1 SPG and was the teams 3rd leading scorer. She is a small feisty combo guard who can play both the 1 and the 2. She proved to be a reliable scoring threat for Doral scoring both at the rim and from outside. She was a dependable ball handler who stayed aggressive in transition looking to attack the rim.
