Travel teams from three states were on hand with South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia having some of its premier talents showcased.
Prep Girls Hoops was on hand in the South Carolina upstate to take in the hoops that took place – and get a good walk in between the main court and Fieldhouse gyms. Here are a few from the class of 2022 that brought their A games with them.
Quadaija Langley Quadaija Langley 5'6" | CG Blue Ridge | 2022 State SC – Blue Ridge HS – SC 76ers 17U Premier – On a team that is as star-studded as coach Asia Dozier’s SC76ers 17U Premier team is, that presents an opportunity for said team to present plenty of depth on both ends of the floor. Langley came off the bench in her team’s contest with North Carolina-based Carolina Flames and gave her squad productive minutes. With her speed, she seemingly glides up and down the floor with ease. Langley gives a team shooting prowess from anywhere on the floor – including from 3-point range. She also gives a team plenty of rebounding and defensive as well as passing prowess and the ability to steal the ball.
She averaged nearly 20 points per game for Blue Ridge HS in 2020-21.
Tyra Myers Tyra Myers 5'6" | PG Hammond | 2022 State SC – Hammond HS – SC 76ers 17U Premier – It is easy to watch any game Myers plays – whether it is with Hammond or SC76ers 17U Premier and be so impressed by her offensive skills that one overlooks the problems she causes opponents on defense. Myers displays impressive footwork and knows how to close in on ball handlers almost at the point of shot release. She creates problems for anyone on the other team with the ball and said ball could end up in her hands when all is said and done. This is on top of Myers’ proficiency as a shooter and how she will drive to the rim against a number of opposing defenders.
Ravin Griffin Ravin Griffin 5'8" | SG Goose Creek | 2022 State SC – Goose Creek HS – Charleston Swarm 2022 – Shooting threes is great when those triples go through the hoop. A number of 3-point attempts Griffin took in Charleston Swarm 2022’s game on Saturday vs. Team Elite Next Generation SC’s 17U team found their way through the hoop. She made three 3-pointers (two in the first half and one in the second) as she paced her team to a 49-33 win over Team Elite Next Generation SC 17U. In fact, she set the tone for her team by scoring the first two points of the game off an assist from teammate Ella Schar Ella Schar 5'10" | PF Bishop England | 2022 State SC . Griffin gets buckets and she was the difference in Charleston Swarm’s win as she tallied 17 points.
Ella Schar Ella Schar 5'10" | PF Bishop England | 2022 State SC – Bishop England HS – Charleston Swarm 2022 – Coming off a season where her Fighting Bishops advanced to this past season’s state championship game, Schar is poised to put forth a banner 2021-22 campaign – both in basketball and in volleyball. If there was a rebound to be had either on the defensive or offensive side, the ball would be in the palms of Schar’s hands. And those offensive boards would be put-backs for two points. Schar is effective at playing the forward spot even though she was mostly at the five as a starter for Charleston Swarm.
Schar managed 10 points in the victory for that game.
Gracie Wilson Gracie Wilson 5'6" | SG Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – Rock Hill HS – Team Elite Next Generation SC 17U – She was as solid as a rock for a Rock Hill team that finished the 2020-21 season and a berth in the 5A upper state championship vs. Clover. Wilson is another that will fulfilling duties of many a point guard will also shoot the 3-point shot with accuracy. She also gives a team rebounding help and will absorb contact to make shots at the free throw line. Some of that contact will come after driving to the basket through defenders. Whether she is slicing through an opposing team’s defense or setting up the halfcourt offense, Wilson is adept at making the extra pass. She scored 13 points in a Team Elite Next Generation victory over SC Future and eight (including two threes) in a later game with Charleston Swarm 2022.
Rayanna Evans – Southside HS – Team Elite Next Generation SC 17U – Evans was also instrumental in that early Saturday morning win her team notched over SC Future – and a great deal of it had to do with a similar element to her game as Wilson’s. In that game, Team Elite Next Generation SC 17U made 5 of its tries from behind the arc. Three were Wilson’s and the the other two were Evans’. She is another that can find a path to the basket through a team’s defense and can get creative with her shot selection if need be. Evans will either take those opportunities or dish the rock out to a teammate to put her in position to score.
Evans scored six points in the win over SC Future and five (plus one more triple) in a later contest with Charleston Swarm 2022.
