The latest event for many of South Carolina’s top girls basketball talents was the LBI Southern Memorial Showdown in Greenville. A myriad of teams converged at Legacy Early College for the two-day event, including teams from the Palmetto State as well as North Carolina and Georgia.
Also on hand for the festivities? We at Prep Girls Hoops which had a front-row seat to a great deal of the games that took place. Here is a look at players from the class of 2023 that shined in the upstate.
Zaria Bell Zaria Bell 6'3" | C South Pointe | 2023 State SC – South Pointe HS – Team Elite Next Generation SC 17U – Bell plays basketball very well and she did once again this past weekend in Greenville. Her formidable presence in the low post make her a tough out either offensively or defensively. Bell will corral a good number of rebounds, but the 6-foot-3 sophomore particularly knows how to get the job done as a shot blocker. She averaged just over one rejection per contest this past season with the Stallions. Team Elite Next Generation 17U opened up the weekend event in Greenville with a win over SC Future 17U – one where Bell scored nine points.
Riley Stack Riley Stack 6'5" | SF Wren | 2023 State SC – Wren HS – SC76ers 17U Premier – Being 6-foot-5 with her lengthy wingspan helps a lot. That is probably the first thing many a coach or scout notices when they see the Hurricanes’ junior-to-be, but her game goes beyond that. She established herself early and often as she scored six points – all in the first half – of SC 76ers’ victory over Carolina Flames. Stack, in addition to a scorer, is also a rebounder and shot-blocker along with getting a few assists and steals. Stack can really change a game on the defensive end of the floor with her ability to alter and challenge shots.
Stack recently picked up a offer from the University of Michigan.
Nadia Burns Nadia Burns 5'10" | SF Legion Collegiate | 2023 State SC – Legion Collegiate Academy – SC Future 16U – Nadia Burns Nadia Burns 5'10" | SF Legion Collegiate | 2023 State SC ’ initials are of course “NB.” NB (no biggie) is probably her response when called on to provide productive minutes for her team. Burns proved to be a spark plug early and often for the SC Future 16U offense. She can convert on tough shots against a number of defenders and has no problem drawing contact. She has a midrange jumper to further bolster her offensive game and will also grab a number of rebounds. One of SC Future 16U’s games on Saturday was vs. PSB Elite Brim, which opened what turned out to be a very defensively-minded get-together with a 5-0 lead. Burns scored all six points which gave her team a 6-5 advantage and also converted what turned out to be a game-winning layup in her team’s 35-33 victory.
Kenzie Feagin Kenzie Feagin 5'5" | SG Trinity Collegiate | 2023 State SC – Florence Christian HS – SC Future 16U – Feagin is a major piece to the winning puzzle at Florence Christian. After all, the Eagles are coming off a 2020-21 season where they were within one victory of the 3A championship game. Feagin knows how to take care of the basketball and has shown her prowess as someone who will try (and make) the 3-point shot. She is also efficient as a passer. She is coming off a sophomore season at Florence Christian where she averaged over 13 points and three assists per game along with four rebounds and three steals. Kenzie has the ability to really knockdown shots on the perimeter.
