We were up in Wichita for the Battle In The Sunflower tourney and my focus all weekend was on the 15U division. That division was absolutely loaded and featured some really strong teams, especially from the state of Oklahoma. After going over our notes and looking at some of the stats that these girls put up, we’ve locked in on three girls who absolutely filled it up from three-point range and were some of the most dangerous shooters in the tournament. in our Tournament Notebook and her big performance against Della Lamb in the final game of the tournament. You can click the link above to read more about it but here’s the short story. Tulsa JYD and Della Lamb were in a battle to be one of only two teams that would finish the tournament undefeated. Mootry would drop 15 in a low-scoring game and all 15 points came from beyond the arc. Mootry was outstanding all weekend when it came to shooting the ball. She would finish the tournament with 13 made three-pointers, the highest number that we saw on all of the stat sheets. What’s crazy is she actually got off to a slow start when you see what the final number ended up being. After Saturday’s two games, Mootry only had four 3-pointers and would drop nine in two games on Sunday, including the five in the final game.
Katie Allen – Nike ProSkills-McAlester
We mentioned in our All Tournament article that it was a tough weekend for ProSkills-McAlester as they went 0-4. However, they had a couple girls that stepped up and played really well over the weekend. One of the girls found her way to the All Tourney team after being one of the top scorers in the tournament, the other is Katie Allen, who shot the lights out of the gym in Kansas. Allen was right there with Mootry with 13 total 3-pointers in the four games. She got off to a fast start by knocking down five 3-pointers in their first win as she led her team in scoring in that game with 16 points. Over the next three games, Allen would connect on eight three-pointers and only had one game where she only finished with one. You don’t make this list unless you were on fire from three-point range and she certainly was.
Ava Levings – Flash KC White
Flash KC White had a solid weekend and they were led by several different players who came up big for them at various times. In fact, in our tourney notebook, we mentioned their game against DC Sports MO being one of our favorite games of the tournament. And the big story there was the ending with Lauren Dittmer hitting what would be the game-winning shot. However, you can make the argument that they wouldn’t have been in that game if Ava Levings wasn’t on fire throughout the game. She led all scorers with 20 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in the win. Similar to Mootry’s five against Della Lamb, what was so impressive and what puts Levings on the list is that not only was she on fire but she was on fire in a great game against a really good defense. The rest of the tournament wasn’t anything crazy as she finished with seven 3-pointers on the weekend. However, that performance against DC Sports MO from beyond the arc was enough to earn her spot here.
