Continue ReadingRutgers Prep is getting a major addition to its 2021-22 roster as Notre Dame (PA) guard standout Antonia Bates announced on May 5 that she would be finishing out her high school career with the Argonauts.
Bates, a Rutgers commit, helped build up a Notre Dame program that hadn’t quite seen astronomical success into one that reached the state semifinals for the first time in program history this season.
The 6-foot guard was a major reason for that success, averaging 12.4 PPG this season, earning Class 3A Second Team All-State honors after arguably her best high school season thus far.
Bates recorded double-digit point totals in 14 games last season, including a season-high 21 points against Nazareth on January 15.
She improved her three-point game significantly during the 2020-21 season, knocking down over 1.6 made threes a game, and was as electric as they come as an outside shooter.
Rutgers Prep, one of the best programs in the state, is always one that can use more balance when it comes to scoring, so Bates, while she’ll be there for just one season, is a welcomed addition.
She’s shown the ability to drive with tenacity into the lane, absorbing contact and weathering the blows to the rim, but that outside shot has given her an extra level to her game, an additional x-factor, that has already tabbed her as one of the best outside shooters in the state.
There’s a reason why the Scarlet Knights had their eyes on her and why she’ll be amongst the best of the best in the Big Ten come the 2022-23 season.
