Sierra Canyon: Underclassmen Evals
In this article:
The high school basketball season is still underway in Southern California, and while the regular season is winding down, the Trail Blazers of Sierra Canyon are showing no signs of slowing up anytime soon. The young but talented group has a current record of 11-3, they are on a four-game winning streak, and they are just one game behind Windward in the competitive Gold Coast Conference. The predominate sophomore and freshman roster is filled with players who can score, defend, and execute on both ends of the floor, amongst other things. Keep an eye out for these players as the Trail Blazers look to end their regular season on a good note and make a run for the CIF Regional Championship.
#4 Mackenly Randolph Mackenly Randolph 5'10" | PF Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA – Class of 2024
It is hard to believe that Randolph is only a freshman. Her overall game is impressive to say the least. Randolph’s versatility on the offensive end makes her a match-up challenge for most defenders. She can create her own shot, finish at the rim with contact, and she is rather quick off the dribble. She has a great feel for the game, waits for plays to develop, crashes the board for rebounds, and actively communicates with teammates on both ends of the floor. Randolph is also an exceptional shooter who is not afraid to let it fly from the perimeter.
#1 Izela Arenas – Class of 2024
Arenas is a talented freshman with a great upside. Her poise and confidence are evident when watching her play. She is athletic, physical, looks to attack the basket, and get her teammates involved. She is active on both ends of the floor, can rebound the ball, shoot the 3, and she is a solid passer. Randolph and Arenas have great chemistry on the court, and they play well off one another.
#0 Christy Reynoso Christy Reynoso 5'5" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA – Class of 2024
Reynoso is another freshman on the Trail Blazer roster, and like her teammates, she is quick off the dribble, plays with discipline, and looks to get her teammates open on the offensive end. She is a skilled and unselfishness passer. She also has range and likes to shoot the three.
#21 Sofia Ruelas – Class of 2023
Ruelas is a floor general who is patient on the offensive end, and will wait for a play to fully develop before forcing a shot or a pass. She can handle the ball well and does not appear flustered when pressured by defenders. Like her teammates, Ruelas can shoot the ball well from the perimeter and knock down mid-range shots as well.
#3 Tamia Murphy – Class of 2021 (Honorable Mention)
As the only senior on the Trail Blazer roster this year, Murphy’s presence provides a sense of leadership, energy, and experience that sparks her team. She aggressively crashes the offensive board for second chance opportunities, looks to get her teammates open shots, and hustles on each possession until the buzzer sounds or the whistle blows. Murphy provides her team with experience and tenacity that can prove to be extremely important down the stretch for such a young team.
