The Grand Invitational – Colorado breakdown

Colorado basketball prospects took their talent to the desert last weekend for The Grand Invitational in Phoenix, AZ, and showed they can beat some of the best teams in the western United States. Here are the Colorado teams who left Phoenix with winning records to go along with their sun tans. <strong>Colorado Premier 17  </strong>3-2 <p style="padding-left: 40px;">Standing out for Premier was the 6’, 2022 star, [player_tooltip player_id="117679" first="Marya" last="Hudgins"], the 3rd leading scorer on last year’s dominant 17-1 Grandview High School team in Aurora, CO.</p> <strong>Colorado Premier 16  </strong>4-1 <p style="padding-left: 40px;">Shawnessy Nordstrom out of Bingham High School in South Jordan, UT, showed off her quick release and deadly accuracy behind the arc. Add in the 2023 thrashing shooter [player_tooltip player_id="118724" first="Laura" last="Gensert"] out of Centaurus High School and this B&amp;B team showed they can compete on a national stage.</span></p> <strong>Lady Roughriders 17U National Team  </strong>4-0 <p style="padding-left: 40px;">Beating up on teams from New Mexico, Arizona, and Montana, this team has a different player stand out every game. Maddy Timms and Jacklyn Stephenson really had strong tournaments. Timms is an unsigned 6’ 2021 inside-outside threat who dropped 15.5 ppg for Dawson School in Lafayette, CO last year. Stephenson, 2022, is a creative and poised 5’10" double-doubler who led Mead in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (8.4) this season.</p> <strong>Lady Roughriders 16U National Team  </strong>3-1 <p style="padding-left: 40px;">This was a break-out tournament for the scrappy 2025 riser, Darby Haley. She’s a tough defender who can shoot with confidence. They were one basket away from a perfect record, dropping only a 59-57 thriller to New Mexico Select Blue Star.</p>
