Here’s what I saw from these standouts.:
Amelia Solt Amelia Solt 5'4" | PG Thompson Valley | 2022 State CO | 5-2 PG| BC Denver| Thompson Valley High School
First and foremost Solt is a complete point guard! She is tenacious on the defensive end of the floor, but her game doesn’t stop there. She runs her team with precision and she has great court vision and sets her teammates up for easy buckets. She is one of her teams leading scores and was so in almost every game. She can finish at the bucket in traffic or drain a three from downtown. She is a great all round point guard.
Mariah Hilliard Mariah Hilliard 5'4" | PG Valor Christian | 2022 State CO | 5-4 PG/SG| BC Denver| Valor Christian High School
There was not a more capable three point shooter that I saw this weekend than Hilliard. If you give her any room at all she is deadly from downtown. On the defensive end of the floor she has good speed and anticipates well and is a lock down defender. She also runs the point at times and is very efficient and has full command of her team when she does. She is one of those pieces every team would like to have and her value is apparent for her team.
Nevaeh Millard Nevaeh Millard 5'7" | CG Denver South | 2024 State CO | 5-7 SF/PF| Outlaws| | Denver South
When you think of power forwards you think of toughness in the paint and Millard is no exception. She mixes it up and is a tough rebounder and a commanding inside presence and she seems to love the contact. She also has the ability to play the stretch small forward position as well. She has a good footwork, a mixture of ability to drive and score from midrange and is adept at drawing fouls. She is a very versatile player her team counts on.
Ella Lavigne | 5-8 PF| Outlaws| Fossil Ridge High School
Sometimes power forwards can go unnoticed if the are not a top scorer, but Lavigne does everything you want a player to do that most players don’t want to do. She guards the other teams biggest player, she scores, she rebounds, and has a hard nosed toughness mentality that is unmatched. In the 3rd place game in this weekends tournament she was asked to guard a couple of six foot plus centers for the other team. She rose to the challenge and shut them down. They were visibly upset and got frustrated by Lavignes’ continuous pressure and ability to not be bullied inside. In addition she nice footwork and body positioning that enabled her to rebound the ball she also hit clutch free throws to seal the victory for her team.
Taaliyah Porter| 5-5 PG| Skills 360| 8th Grader| Stevens High School
Porter is one of two top performing 8th graders playing in the varsity division this weekend. Taaliyah has a great knack at finishing at the bucket. Sometimes it appears she get’s into trouble by over penetrating but still has an ability to finish. She has great body control and is very flexible which helps her with finishing at the bucket. She has good speed and court vision and gets her team into positions to be effective. I also liked her motor. She is non stop and is able to keep that pace up for an entire game. She also has good size which helps her since she is a rising 9th grader. I expect big things from her in the future.
Jodene Hunter | 5-5 PG| Skills 360| Stevens High School
As another one of my top performing 8th graders playing up this weekend Hunter was very effective. She has good footwork and an ability to get around her defender and finish. On the defensive end of the floor she keeps herself in front of her player and does not let them have much room to operate. She is definitely a player to keep an eye out for as her High School career hasn’t even begun.
