Olivia Mayer Olivia Mayer 5'8" | CG Martinsburg | 2022 State WV – 2022 – 5’8 Guard – Martinsburg
The sports coverage in the eastern panhandle in the state of West Virginia has always not been as big as other parts of the state. Many athletes are underestimated for their talent until they come closer to Charleston to show it. With Olivia Mayer Olivia Mayer 5'8" | CG Martinsburg | 2022 State WV she has shown strides to be a solid all-around player. Mayer’s obvious strength is her sharpshooting from behind the arc with her high arcing shot. Mayer, primarily a shooting guard, has some length to use on defense. With team leader Prosperity Stitt Prosperity Stitt 5'8" | CG Martinsburg | 2021 State WV graduating it will be interesting how Mayer adjusts into the leader role and if the Bulldogs will make it back to Charleston next high school season.
Kierra Richmond Kierra Richmond 5'8" | CG Shady Spring | 2022 State WV – 2022 – 5’8 Guard – Shady Spring
Another quiet name with not a strong surrounding deep team. Kierra Richmond Kierra Richmond 5'8" | CG Shady Spring | 2022 State WV has led Shady Spring since sophomore year. Richmond always has the grit to get to the basket. If she can’t get all the way she will not shy away from her floater, one of her more reliable shots. Richmond will shoot from anywhere and can create space on the pull-up game. She continues to perform well on the AAU circuit with the Ohio Valley Dragons.
KK Potter KK Potter 6'0" | PF Cabell Midland | 2022 State WV – 2022 – 6’0 Forward – Cabell Midland
A great role player in arguably the deepest high school team in the state. Kaedlee “KK” Potter is a great versatile option for any team. Potter at 6’0 is as comfortable outside as inside. Mainly put inside setting screens and getting open looks. Potter is perfect as the screener on the pick & roll or pick & pop. She shoots consistently from 15 feet out and also will knock down a good bit from behind the arc. The biggest key on her shot is her feet as she gets perfectly square with the basket. Defensively Potter is more of an inside defender as she is known for setting a lot of charges and getting boards. Potter has the advantage on bigs when getting down the floor with her speed.
Jasmine D. Tabor Jasmine D. Tabor 5'7" | CG Wayne | 2022 State WV – 2022 – 5’7 Guard – Wayne
Wayne Junior Jasmine D. Tabor Jasmine D. Tabor 5'7" | CG Wayne | 2022 State WV was a great mold for the Wayne Pioneers this past season. With Wallace mainly handling the ball it was Tabor’s job to find the gaps in the defense. When teams were in zone Tabor would be finding the space usually in the middle. Catching it, turning, then pulling up, kicking out, or attacking the basket. Tabor’s jumpers from mid-ranger were shot at very high percentages. Tabor would also stop out behind the arc and knock down some. She uses her body aggressively moving defenders as she heads to the rim. Wayne loses a great senior group so seeing how Tabor helps Wayne next season will be something to keep an eye on. As for now, Tabor is playing AAU for the Tri-State Hurricanes.
Olivia Ziolkowski Olivia Ziolkowski 6'0" | PF Woodrow Wilson | 2022 State WV – 2022 – 6’0 Forward – Woodrow Wilson
More of a true post player comes from Woodrow Wilson’s Olivia Ziolkowski Olivia Ziolkowski 6'0" | PF Woodrow Wilson | 2022 State WV . Once again a very versatile big. Defensively Ziolkowski has great length making her a great shot blocker. Ziolkowski is aggressive on the glass on both ends, boxing out and pulling down rebounds. With Ziolkowski being more a quick forward, she is used at the top of presses sometimes making it hard for the inbounder. Offensively Ziolkowski can shoot it from anywhere. Stronger inside of course with post moves but she can also put the ball on the ground and get by defenders. She has an unexpected pull-up game and can hit the three-ball. She is playing with the West Virginia Thunder Gold team this summer.
Sydney Baird Sydney Baird 5'7" | CG Webster County | 2023 State WV – 2023 – 5’6 Guard – Webster County
Starting to make some noise is Webster County guard Sydney Baird Sydney Baird 5'7" | CG Webster County | 2023 State WV . Baird is coming off a great season averaging 30.9 points per game on over 60% shooting. Baird does it all offensively. Handling the ball she has a strong mid-range pull-up. Attacks the basket finishing at the rim or with a floater. Also, very comfortable shooting the three-ball and knocking it down.
Mya Toombs Mya Toombs 5'5" | CG Capital | 2023 State WV – 2023 – 5’4 Guard – Capital
Capital sophomore Mya Toombs Mya Toombs 5'5" | CG Capital | 2023 State WV brings aggressiveness to the court. Toombs great defensively pressuring defenders like no other. Toombs speeds up guards and forces them to make mistakes. Offensively Toombs has a knack for getting to the basket. She will finish through contact. Toombs also will step behind the arc and hit shots.
Sidney Harris Sidney Harris 5'5" | SG South Charleston | 2023 State WV – 2023 – 5’5 Guard – South Charleston
Talking about knockdown shooters Sidney Harris Sidney Harris 5'5" | SG South Charleston | 2023 State WV of South Charleston strokes it from behind the arc. A heavy catch and shoot target, she is the one you give the green light from behind the arc. Only being 5’5 Harris has some length with her wingspan being able to extend the defense.
Rebekah Rupert Rebekah Rupert 6'1" | C Ritchie County | 2023 State WV – 2023 – 6’1 Center – Ritchie County
If you want an inside presence then Rebekah Rupert Rebekah Rupert 6'1" | C Ritchie County | 2023 State WV of Ritchie County is a great option. Standing at 6’1 Rupert stays inside to show her post-game and get rebounds. Rupert makes offenses shoot away from her because she is a good shot blocker.
Maggie Odour Maggie Odour 5'7" | CG Hurricane | 2023 State WV – 2023 – 5’7 Guard – Hurricane
Hurricane guard and leader Maggie Odour Maggie Odour 5'7" | CG Hurricane | 2023 State WV have had two solid high school seasons so far. Leading the Redskins in scoring both seasons. Odour has a strong pull-up game, getting space to hit those shots, and also likes to attack the rim. Odour is no stranger to shooting the three-pointer either
