What Bigs Stoodout at Takeover Cinco De Mayo
Takeover Cinco De Mayo is the annual first week of May tournament that has been a huge attraction for girls basketball in the DMV. With six age groups and around 10 venues getting to every game was impossible, however, everywhere we visited there was loads of talent on hand. With college coaches always in search of a solid player in the paint, I wanted to start with the top post players we saw over the weekend.
Jai’den Anderson Jai’den Anderson 5'9" | SG Shabach Christian Academy | 2023 State MD – 6’7″ – Team Thrill – 2023
Hawa was massive on the court. She has a solid frame and strong body to go with soft hands. She can catch on the move and finish on either side of the basket. She didn’t seem to be foul prone so look for her to start becoming more aggressive as she progresses as she has all the tools to be dominant at the college level.
Fiona Haystick – 5’11″ – Loundoun Flight – 2022
Fiona is a forward that can face up and stretch the floor with a three. She has a variety of back to the basket moves to get off her shot against various defenders and to keep them guessing. Her up and under and step through moves are text book and she can put the ball on the floor when needed.
Kennedy Hall – 6’2″ – Team Takeover 15U – 2025
Kennedy is a long athletic center that rebounds high and keeps the ball high after securing it. She has a good motor and stays active on both ends. She can block and alter shots in the paint without fouling and has a nice stroke from the free thow line which can translate into being a midrange threat.
Mia Wolfolk – 6’3″ – BWSL 15U – 2024
Mia is solid inside with the full package of strength and size. She finishes with contact and seems to love the physical game inside. She has a nice touch to turn and face from the high post and her mid range game is solid. She should be looked at as one of the top post players in the class.
Sahnya Jay – 6’2″ – Team Takeover – 2024
Sahnya can also fall in the the showcases top wing catagory. She is a very versitile athlete that can play several positions. Listed here with the bigs for her ability to rebound and finish. She has a knack for knowing where the ball will land off the offensive board and getting there. She uses her quickness when playing back to the basket to spin off defenders, dipping and getting to the basket.
Fadima Tall Fadima Tall 6'0" | PF Georgetown Visitation | 2022 State MD – 5’11″ – Fairfax Stars – 2023
Fadima is another inside outside player that fills up the stat sheets with both points and rebounds. She is active around the glass and holds her ground against taller players. She moves her feet constantly allowing her to guard the perimeter and she has a good shooting touch. She is good at attacking the basket and drawing contact and yes, she can knock down a consistent three ball.
Olivia Brooks Olivia Brooks 6'1" | C Bishop Ireton | 2022 State VA – 6’2″ – Team Takeover – 2022
Olivia’s massive size and strength typically requires two defenders as she easily shrugs off and dislodges the first one. Smaller defenders have no chance against her in the paint. She is most effective from six feet in but can knock down enough shots to make you have to guard her in the high post. Despite her size she has no problem getting up and down the floor and her conditioning is good enough to keep her in an entire game if she doesn’t get into foul trouble.
