Even late in their high school careers there are players that made a statement as to why they deserved to be ranked, as well as players that probably deserved to be for a while. We will look at some of the notable newcomers to the 2021 Michigan prospect rankings.
Courtney Balazs Courtney Balazs CG New Boston Huron | 2021 State MI (CG, New Boston Huron)
I had the chance to check out New Boston Huron this season and I was really impressed with Balazs. She showed the ability to score against a tough defensive team. Better yet, she was a hustle player that was the first to hit the floor for a loose ball.
Jenna Dove Jenna Dove PF Vestaburg | 2021 State MI (PF, Vestaburg)
Dove is a highly decorated high school basketball player that could have been on the prospect list sooner. She’s a scorer at heart and creative in doing so. Dove has actually passed the 1000 point mark in her career.
Christina Lamb Christina Lamb 5'9" | PF Lake Fenton | 2021 State MI (PF, Lake Fenton)
Lamb is a really interesting prospect and, in my opinion, underrated. If there was no covid shortening the season, I have no doubt that Lamb’s name would have circulated more. She contributes in so many different ways. Lamb’s a consistent scorer and has a nose for the ball off the glass. She’s also a solid post passer.
Nina Perl Nina Perl 5'9" | PG South Lyon East | 2021 State MI (PG, South Lyon East)
Perl is a player that just keeps getting better. Every time you watch her, it seems like there’s a noticeable improvement in some aspect of her game. Perl is a multifaceted lead guard that can set up and run an offense as well as get buckets when it’s in her teams best interest. It’s by no means a surprise to see her throw up a 20 spot.
Reagan Thorr Reagan Thorr 5'9" | SF Frankfort | 2021 State MI (SF, Frankfort)
Thorr is another player that I think was seriously affected by the covid shortened season. With more time and more games, her name would have been in the press a lot more. She’s a very skilled wing that can do things off the bounce and has a nice jumper. Thorr fought through an injury to battle back for her senior season. She has a reputation as a leader both on and off the court.
