That was the case this past weekend at Aiken High School as the Summer Dreams High School Exposure event emanated from the home court of the Green Hornets. Five girls teams participated in the weekend’s festivities.
And we at Prep Girls Hoops were on hand for the Saturday at Aiken. Here is a look at who had standout performances from this upcoming season’s senior class.
Jazmin McCollough Jazmin McCollough 5'8" | PF Aiken | 2022 State SC – Aiken HS – McCollough brings lots of energy to her team in addition to being a 5-foot-8 forward. She managed to take care of the basketball and can go from one end of the floor to the other. McCollough is especially active on the defensive end of the floor as her long wingspan enables her to collect steals. She is strong to the rim and will draw contact enroute to the line.
Ashari Lewis Ashari Lewis 5'9" | SF Keenan | 2022 State SC – Keenan HS – Prep Girls Hoops last got a glimpse of Lewis early last month at the LBI Spring Invitational in Easley with SC 76ers. Different uniform, of course, but same Lewis. She established herself early near the rim in one of the Saturday games for Keenan. She is listed as being 5-foot-8 but can play either the guard or forward positions. If trying to score on her, there is a chance she may reject said shot. She scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds in a game Keenan played on Saturday vs. Ridge View in addition to 11 points and five boards when the Raiders matched up against Lower Richland later in the day.
Jailyn Oree Jailyn Oree 5'9" | PF Keenan | 2022 State SC – Keenan HS – As everyone knows, one of a coach’s favorite words when looking at what her or his team presents is depth. When coach Reggie McLain’s Keenan team matched up with Ridge View on Saturday, Oree entered the game off the bench and provided the Raiders with a good deal of serviceable minutes. She was effective near the rim on both the offensive and defensive sides and managed to make her way to the free throw line. Oree will play stout defense and bolster a team’s rebounding efforts – on either side of the floor. She scored 14 points for the Raiders in the game with Ridge View and collected eight rebounds in a later contest with Lower Richland.
Anala Nelson Anala Nelson 5'8" | CG Lower Richland | 2022 State SC – Lower Richland HS – Speaking of players who have conjured their fair share of offers – Division I schools such as Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville have been among suitors for Nelson. One could see why by observing her play. Nelson will find her shot opportunities and those could be either in the mid range game or from distance. Nelson is also one of the tougher defenders one will find. As she once again proved this past season with the Diamond Hornets, she is a constant threat to steal the ball. Nelson will also get any team plenty of rebounds and plenty of passing to create opportunities for her teammates.
