Lots of that was on display this past weekend at the LBI Southern Memorial Showdown in Greenville. With the host school being Legacy Early College, standouts from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia were on hand to take part in the multi-day event.
Prep Girls Hoops was also on hand at the home of the Lions to catch all of the great basketball was played – and to witness that youth movement first hand. Here is a look at some players who stood out from the class of 2024.
Quinasia Abercrombie Quinasia Abercrombie 5'9" | SF Wade Hampton | 2024 State SC – Wade Hampton HS – SC Lady Sixers – For us at Prep Girls Hoops, this is a name that we have become very familiar with as we remember her performance at an earlier LBI travel event (also in the upstate – Easley) where she scored 20 points in a game vs. Georgia Sting. This past weekend in Greenville, she had a 16-point showing vs. CLT Lady Monarchs. Abercrombie will draw plenty of contact and find her way at the free throw line. When she does, she is very likely to make her shots from the stripe. Abercrombie will throw defenses off balance with her shot selection (which includes long range tries) as well as her passing. She does not give up on plays and displays an awareness for what is happening on any play. On one occasion, she got in position near a rim to recover the ball in case of a miss only to get two points near the rim.
Terriana Gray Terriana Gray 5'9" | SF A.C. Flora | 2024 State SC – A.C. Flora HS – SC Future 16U – Gray’s game is one that is very vibrant. Listed at 5-foot-9, she displays versatility as someone who can play either the guard or forward positions. Gray will set up a a half court offense and provide a nice bit of defensive help – such as in the help defense to set up double teams. She can get creative with her dribbling as well as with her passing. Gray averaged three assists (in addition to over 13 points, five rebounds and three steals) this past season with A.C. Flora, but is willing to find her way to the rim through a defense herself if necessary. On occasion, those drives will see her draw contact and get to the line. With her team trailing 33-28 against PSB Elite, she scored five straight points to tie the game at 33 to set up a game-winning layup from Nadia Burns Nadia Burns 5'10" | SF Legion Collegiate | 2023 State SC .
De’Ashaj Crawford De’Ashaj Crawford 5'6" | PG Rock Hill | 2024 State SC – Rock Hill HS – Team Elite Next Generation SC 16U – Crawford’s skills all point to having to look very hard to find many flaws. She is listed at 5-foot-6 and as a point guard, shooting guard and small forward. Crawford will make clutch passes to get herself and her team out of precarious situations such as double teams. If she has the ball in 3-point range, there is a good chance she may take that shot or she will pass to an open teammate. Crawford is tenacious in going to the rim, slicing through a team’s defense and absorbing contact to set up tries at the free throw line. She had nine points in Team Elite Next Generation’s 38-32 win on Saturday over Carolina Aces.
Sadie Burnette – Woodruff HS – Carolina Aces – In Burnette’s first season with the Wolverines, Woodruff finished with a 14-7 record along with going 7-4 in AAA Region 3. Burnette’s play is an indication that Woodruff does not look to deviate from its winning ways anytime soon. She came up big in the second half in what turned out to be a close contest with Team Elite Next Generation SC 16U as she greatly bolstered her team’s 3-point efforts. Carolina Aces hit a trio of treys in the second half of the game – with two leaving Burnette’s hands. Burnette will get a team rebounds as well as buckets from the midrange. She scored eight points – all in the second half – vs. Team Elite Next Generation SC 16U.
