Defense is nothing but guts, intensity, and a strong desire to totally shut down a player. And Katie does this, very very well! Her defense on the ball sets the tone for so many factors- she makes it very difficult for opposing teams to find a rhythm. No, it doesn’t show up on stats, but I can promise you college coaches pick up on this, real quick! She can shoot behind the arc as well! (Featured Photo, playing defense).
India Respress- 5’10, 2021, Hype Athletics 2022, Chandler Park Academy H.S. (MI): I love players who are not timid and are aggressive on both ends of the court- and India does just that! Nice mid range jumper, and is a magnet with the basketball- she just gravitates to it when it comes to any loose ball or rebound. Plays with confidence, and effective on offense- moves well without the ball.
Ndidiamaka Ndukwe- 6’0, 2021, Hype Athletics 2022, Summit Academy H.S. (MI): Ndukwe has good anticipation on both ends of the floor to rebound, and get into position to receive the pass- whether that be on the block, or from the outside. I really like her strength and size, loves to fight for rebounds, and does a great job attacking the lane!
Kelsie Woodard- 6’2, 2022, Overtime Performance 2022, Menifee County H.S.: (Below, rebounding) Woodard has a terrific game, and impressed me all weekend! Opponents have a big assignment in containing her, because her height, ability to rebound and shoot are consistent and strong. She’s a blocking threat! Gets great position inside, and dishes out when she doesn’t have a good shot- she finds her guards, follows their shots for easy put backs. Double teaming doesn’t phase her!
Emma Smieska- 5’9, 2022, MSF Flight 2022, Leslie H.S.: Smieska has nice length and positional size, gets up and down the floor well and makes strong decisions on transition. She attacks the paint well, creating opportunities to capitalize from the free throw line, which is
