Presbyterian College Team Camp: 2023 Top Performers – Part 1
In this article:
Approximately an hour northwest of Columbia up Interstate 26 sits the town of Clinton – where Presbyterian College is located. Presbyterian also was the site of one of the latest team camps to take place this offseason.
The Blue Hose and coach Alaura Sharp utilized four courts for its camp – including two at the team’s primary basketball arena.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were thrilled to be on hand for what was a great morning and afternoon of basketball. Let us take a look a a few standouts from the class of 2023 that caught our attention.
Alaina Nettles Alaina Nettles 5'8" | CG Cane Bay | 2023 State SC – Cane Bay HS – Clear the lane for Alaina because she is coming through. In fact, even if said lane is not clear, she will make it look as if it is. Nettles knows how to attack the basket with a great deal of speed. She plays the guard position well while also displaying versatility as one who can play the three or the four. Nettles has no problem calling for the ball – an extension of the confidence she has as a player. As much of a threat as she is to score, she will attract double teams, but will still go strong to the cup. She knows when to attack and she knows when to pass. Nettles also will provide shot blocking, steals, free throw shooting, assists and rebounding to her overall game. She also does plenty of things that do not always appear on a stat sheet – such as make heads up plays and display activity off free throws.
Lindsay Garner Lindsay Garner 6'2" | C Lexington | 2023 State SC – Lexington HS – Lindsay has without question garnered a great deal of praise over the years for her play with the Wildcats. At 6-foot-2, she is currently the tallest talent that the Wildcats have on its roster, but she is also tall with a jump shot. Garner is very efficient in the low post along with collecting rebounds on either the offensive or defensive glass. She will block shots and also will steal the ball on more than one occasion. There are plenty of rebounding struggles that will go her and the Wildcats’ way. In addition to basketball, Garner has also played volleyball while at Lexington.
Hillary Offing Hillary Offing 5'11" | PF Dutch Fork | 2023 State SC – Dutch Fork HS – Put her on the vast list of two-sport athletes across the Palmetto State as she has excelled not only on the basketball court but on the soccer pitch as well. Offing is adept at taking care of the ball and can create extra possessions for a team by virtue of steals. She can make plays near the rim and her offensive arsenal also includes a mid range shot. She has no problems drawing contact and finding her way to the free throw line. As a defender, Offing can make things difficult for whoever she is guarding and if whoever it is she is guarding has the ball, she goes for the ball as well as for the stop.
Asa Snyder Asa Snyder 5'7" | SG Porter Gaud | 2023 State SC – Porter-Gaud HS – It is very appropriate that the number three is well-associated with Snyder. She has worn the no. 33 in the past for Porter-Gaud and wore the no. 3 at the Presbyterian camp. With Snyder, good things apparently come in threes and Snyder makes good things happen when she attempts the 3-point shot. She takes a lead role in running the Cyclones’ offense – that includes getting to the basket as well as ball distribution. She can be a lockdown defender and her work at keeping opposing ball handlers in check leads to possibilities for those ball carriers to cough up said rock, enabling for Snyder and Porter-Gaud to go the other way with it.
Ryian Howard Ryian Howard 5'10" | PF Northwood Academy | 2023 State SC – Cane Bay HS – The Cobras’ roster for 2021-22 is shaping up to be one with plenty of experience. Howard is a noteworthy example as Cane Bay only graduated one senior from last year’s team. She provides an interior defensive element to Ira Owens’ Cane Bay team and is one who will battle for rebounds – and win many of those battles for the Wolverines. In addition, she can draw her fair share of contact and find herself at the free throw line. Howard adds to the Cobras’ scoring attack and also boosts the defense as she can steal the ball.
