June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and in Indiana it’s even bigger for the ladies entering their Sophomore years of high school. This marks the one-year anniversary from when their initial watchlist first hit the website, and it’s the first time we’ve done a traditional Top-100 list without any type of watchlist attached to it. As it relates to the 2024 point guard group, there are 26 ladies who have acquired a spot within the Top-100. Six of them are new to any type of 2024 list on PGH Indiana. With a full Spring season “in the books” for the first time since 2019, it helped to provide more clarity as to who the better prospects are throughout the state. Below is a look at those 26 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis of the newcomers and a handful of girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in March.
Newcomers
As it relates to the Class of 2024, expansion is not the major emphasis with regards to our Summer rankings. Instead, we are focused on taking a Top-50 list plus a 50-player watchlist, and molding that into a more traditional Top-100 list. Even still, there are six young ladies who are entirely new to any rankings list we’ve done in 2024 over the last year. They are highlighted below, and if you know them, I think you’d agree they belong here.
Kylie Caswell Kylie Caswell 5'4" | PG Angola | 2024 IN , Angola H.S. – Kylie is a dynamic little water-bug type of point guard who flies around the floor constantly trying to make plays. She is a creator offensively, she gets into the lane and causes problems, plus she can knock down open shots outside, and she’s a gnat defensively.
Keaton Gatlin Keaton Gatlin 5'8" | SG Carmel | 2024 IN , Carmel H.S. – With regards to this group of newcomers, Keaton is a bit unique, because she has a taller, stronger frame than these other girls. She is a nice, well-rounded athlete who seems to always be on attack. She absorbs contact well, and she plays with focus and a nice motor.
Sydney Gorman Sydney Gorman 5'8" | SG Fort Wayne Wayne | 2024 State IN , Fort Wayne Wayne H.S. – Sydney has had a number of siblings play ball over the last few years in Fort Wayne. She brings great length, fluid athleticism, and good North/South speed to the court. She can play on the ball and create offense, or she can knock down shots from the wing.
Ella Hickok Ella Hickok 5'6" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2024 State IN , Hamilton Heights H.S. – Ella is the second of our water-bug army on this list. She is another playmaker who likes to create off the bounce. She has good speed and incredible quickness, but she’s also well-rounded skillfully. She can knock down shots outside, and she’s a nice on-ball defender.
Carrie Hiler Carrie Hiler 5'7" | SG Scottsburg | 2024 State IN , Scottsburg H.S. – Carrie has really shone through this Spring, playing in multiple age groups. She has a solid/strong frame, a natural feel for the game, and she plays with a steady pace and rarely forces the action. You also have to respect her outside, as she is a dangerous 3-point shooter.
Taelyn Russell, Westfield H.S. – The last of the water-bugs here, Taelyn has broad shoulders, length, but also that nice quickness that allows her to change directions quickly. Even at her size, I think she takes contact well, and she plays with a quiet toughness and intensity. She has a nice pass-first mentality.
Keep an eye on…
Morgan Cross Morgan Cross 5'7" | CG Northridge | 2024 State IN , Northridge H.S. – Morgan is one of the better point guard prospects in Northern Indiana who few people know. She is a quiet kid, but her game speaks volumes. She is a consistent shooter with deep range, she’s tough and aggressive, but she also has really good ball skill and sees the floor well.
Julia Munkholm, Fishers H.S. – From 2023-2025, the Fishers backcourt is loaded. Julia is intriguing to me because she has tremendous length, fluid athleticism, and a versatile skillset. She can handle the ball and run offense, she’s great in transition, but she can also knock down open rhythm jumpers.
Kyndra Sheets Kyndra Sheets 5'6" | PG Columbia City | 2024 State IN , Columbia City H.S. – Kyndra has always been a nice, steady, strong point guard prospect who has stood out amongst her peers. But this Spring, she looks more explosive, and she’s starting to do a really nice job of creating space with the dribble. She has also shot it well each time I’ve seen her.
Joirdyn Smith Joirdyn Smith 5'4" | CG Fishers | 2024 State IN , Fishers H.S. – Speaking of that Fishers backcourt, Joirdyn saw Varsity action this past season. She is a strong and explosive scorer, but what I’ve been most impressed with this Spring is her transitioning from being a shooter/scorer who has ball skill, to being more of a point guard who can score.
