June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and for the Class of 2023, it marks the transition from underclassman to upperclassman for those ladies entering their Junior years of high school. On the whole, the 2023 list expanded from 150 prospects to 175 prospects, and there was some movement throughout the entirety of the list. With regards to that movement, this is the first of three articles highlighting 18 prospects who moved up the rankings ten or more spots this time around. Below is a look at the first six ladies I felt really stood out with their play throughout the Spring.
Trinity Britton Trinity Britton 5'5" | CG South Spencer | 2023 IN , 2023, 5-5 CG, South Spencer H.S. – Trinity is a tough-nosed, feisty little guard who always plays with a lot of energy. She has a wiry strong frame, she is very active at both ends of the floor, plus she has shown a balanced skillset. She can handle it a little and run offense, but she plays a little more off the ball and knocks down open rhythm jumpers. She will also hound the ball defensively at times.
Laniya Early Laniya Early 5'10" | SF Lawrence North | 2023 State IN , 2023, 5-10 SF, Lawrence North H.S. – Laniya has always been a talented athlete who can run and jump with anyone in this class. This Spring she looks taller and stronger, and she has become a real playmaker off the bounce. She is tough to trap, as she has improved her handle, plus she absorbs contact well attacking the basket. She needs a little tightening of her overall skillset, but she has a high ceiling.
Eva Fisher Eva Fisher 5'8" | SG Northridge | 2023 State IN , 2023, 5-8 SG, Northridge H.S. – Eva is a constant blur on the court, as she plays with a nonstop motor, speed, and aggressiveness. She is very assertive off the bounce, she can get downhill quickly, and she does a nice job of balancing scoring with finding open teammates. She actually plays more of a point guard role for her high school team. I also think she has shot it more consistently this Spring.
Jaci Menard Jaci Menard 5'11" | PF Boone Grove | 2023 IN , 2023, 5-11 PF, Boone Grove H.S. – Jaci was a move-in this year from New Hampshire, and she has gotten comfortable quickly and put together a nice Spring season. She has some strength to her, good length, and she’s a solid on-the-floor athlete. What I like most is, she will post strong and battle for boards around the block, but she also has a presence outside and can knock down 3-pointers.
Kaitlyn Shoemaker Kaitlyn Shoemaker 5'4" | PG Noblesville | 2023 State IN , 2023, 5-4 PG, Noblesville H.S. – Playing in a backcourt with Ashlynn Shade Ashlynn Shade 5'10" | SG La Lumiere Prep | 2023 State #33 Nation IN (2023) and Reagan Wilson Reagan Wilson 5'7" | PG Noblesville | 2024 State IN (2024), Kaitlyn is a bit overlooked, but she can play. She isn’t very big, but she’s quick/fast, shifty, and somewhat feisty. She can run offense and create off the bounce, but she’s also a knockdown shooter with range to 25-feet. She has taken over games at times this Spring.
Skyla Tomasek Skyla Tomasek 6'2" | C Norwell | 2023 State IN , 2023, 6-1 C, Norwell H.S. – Skyla has stood out to me this Spring because she is playing with more versatility and consistency. She has an athletically strong frame, good length, and solid athleticism. In the past, she was more of a back-to-the-basket kid who controlled the paint, rebounding and blocking shots. But now she’s stretching her game to the mid-post, even shooting the occasional 3-pointer.
