Continue ReadingI have been on a mission, so much basketball, so many faces, especially new, that once again, I’m overwhelmed with an abundance of talent to drop. Keep in mind I still have coverage from Border War and day 2 of Heart of Texas, I haven’t forgotten, yet I want to give you a little something from a camp I covered right now, Girlz Got Game in Buda, Texas with around 90 players in both HS as well as MS and younger Divisions. Stay tuned, I’m on fire and I’ll start with the Top Performers I already knew about
2023
Jacy Reese-5’5 CG (SA Wagner HS) Texas Flight
Reese just blows me away every time I see her because she usually is blowing by defenders and when you factor in, she can handle the ball under pressure and show the slight HEZ, and that “first step” along with the SWB speed with ball all ties in. She can shoot it from mid to long-range w, she attacks and finishes strongly and she sees the floor and this includes the open court, the half-court, or dishing off the dribble while attacking the basket
Sarah Sheriff-5’10 SF (Vandergrift HS) Texas Warriors Elite
Sheriff falls into that “I forgot your name, yet I remembered your game” category and after catching her at an event previously, I remembered taking a mental note about her “work-ethic” as well as her upside so fast forward to not, she showed she could overpower on the inside, this includes players over “the magic number” of 6’0 yet she also faced the basket and scored and took defenders off the dribble. Her rebounding, on both ends, as well as her defense all stood out
2024
Tatyanna Bailey Tatyanna Bailey 5'8" | CG Hendrickson | 2024 State TX -5’10 G/F (Hendrickson HS) Austin Elite
Bailey was added to the 2024 Watchlist after her performance at last season’s #AllEyezOnMe Individual Showcase last season and guess who was right. As good as I thought she was then, something clicked and she went completely on both ends of the court, either off the dribble, she took defenders at will, and finished with either hand, this includes after contact but her pull-up jumper in half-court, she explodes off the ground to release it, was smoothy falling from mid to long-range
Mariah Houston Mariah Houston 5'7" | CG Tom Glenn | 2024 State TX -5’5 CG (Glenn HS) Extreme 212
Houston had me thinking “how did I miss her” from the rankings after watching her just put on one of the best individual offensive performances I have seen this club season so after checking, I didn’t, she’s #18 yet will move up. Sometimes I forget faces, I had seen her only once and she grew a little from last time but her “stop and pop” jumper in transition is one of the best in Texas. She attacks gracefully yet powerfully and with her body control, she’s an “and one” waiting to happen
Niyah Waters-5’9 SG (Hendrickson HS) Competitive Edge
Waters has just left me speechless at her “poise” at this stage because she played against upperclassmen at Border War and was tagged #D1Lock and after seeing her in this setting, throw away the key because she’s showing signs of being a national prospect, she’s long and athletic, creates her shot under pressure and can drop it from outside, this includes the long-range jumper, as well as score off the dribble. She also does a good job defending, keep in mind she’s playing up so it’s even more impressive and drumroll please, she plays the passing lane
I’ll drop something on the BREAK OUT players as well as NEW FACES as I prepare for this weekend ALL EYEZ ON ME INDIVIDUAL SHOWCASE June 11th and I’ll be getting the updated rankings together after the Tyrone Johnson Showcase 12-13
