The 2024 rankings have expanded and some of the newest additions are in the top of the class. Many players have stepped their games up after missing an entire hig school season. See who has popped in the scene.
Carolae Barton Carolae Barton 6'2" | PF St. John's College | 2024 State MD – 6’2″ – Power Forward – DC Premier/St. John’s College #6
Carolae is on of the strongest players not only in her class but in the state. She has been playing up since middle school and has been holding her own against players now in college. Despite her physical size, she is quite nimble and have the skill of a guard. Growing another inch or two is a possibility which can put her on a professional track after college.
Kennedy Umeh Kennedy Umeh 6'4" | C McDonogh | 2024 State MD – 6’3″ – Power Forward – Philly Rise/McDonogh #7
Kennedy has a college body already and has D-1 size. She has caught the eye of multiple college programs and hasn’t even tapped her potential yet. She controls the paint on defense and finishes at the basket which are both required for player of her stature. She runs the floor well and completes the play in transition.
Amaya Durrett Amaya Durrett 5'5" | CG Parkdale | 2024 State MD – 5’5″ – Point Guard – Team Thrill #16
Amaya can handle the ball under pressure. She looks a little taller than her listed 5’5″. She is very quick and attacks the basket well. I’d like to see her open the floor more with her outside shot, but she seems to consistently make the right play.
Ava McKennie Ava McKennie 6'2" | SF McDonogh | 2024 State MD – 6’1″ – Power Forward – Philly Rise/McDonogh #13
Already a mid to high major prospect, Ava can play with her back to the basket or face up from the key. She has a soft touch around the basket which can translate into being a perimeter threat. She can defend away from the basket and she goes hard on the glass.
Aliyah Taylor Aliyah Taylor 5'10" | SG Pikesville | 2024 State MD – 5’9″ – Shooting Guard – Power Move/Pikesville #26
Aliyah has good size for a guard. Playing alongside her twin sister Bree, Pikesville should make a championship run this season. The pair also can fill recruiting voids for colleges recruiting the class. She has a good shot and long arms to deflect passes. Both can defend any perimeter position.
Aliyah Carroll Aliyah Carroll 5'9" | SF Forest Park | 2024 State MD – 5’11″ – Wing – Power Move/Forest Park #17
Carroll has all the physical tools of an elite level wing. She has a quick first step to attack the baseline and covers a lot of ground in only a couple of dribbles. In transition she moves well with and without the ball. She has division one length and athleticism, easily putting her as one the most intriguing prospects in the area.
