Here is a look at five impressive players who stock is rising.
Taylor Derkack — Colonia High School — Philly Rise 16u
Derkack is a do-it-all guard, with the ability to slice and dice hey way through defenses, making it look easy, and to get the basket for the bucket.
Derkack possesses the uncanny skill to avoid defenders who are looking to take a charge, and make them literally look as if they are standing still. Well, that’s because they are. But I digress.
She can score in bunches, rebounds like a bat out hell, and is an excellent defender. She is a star in the making, if not already one.
Alexis Rosenfeld — Saddle River Day School — New Jersey Sparks 16U EYBL
Many high school hoops insiders consider Rosenfeld to be one of the Garden State’s top high school rebounders in her class.
While the rising sophomore center had played a limited amount of time with Saddle River Day School as a freshman, she has shown promise with what she can do when granted more minutes with her AAU NJ Parks 16U squad this summer.
Rosenfeld is always around the basketball, and can put the ball back in the hoop off a rebound. Plus, she is developing a nice jumper, which should get even better as he progresses.
Dagny Slomack — Newark Academy — New Jersey Sparks 16U EYBL
Slomack, a 5-foot-1 scrappy point guard, may seem a bit undersized compared to the other girls on the hardwood in any given game she plays in, but make no mistake about it, Slomack can flat out play.
She is lightening quick, can handle the rock, and plays a solid defense, due in large part to her contestant, high-motor hustle engine.
Slomack dropped in 53 points, grabbed 12 boards, dished out 10 assists, and made eight steals in four games in her freshman season at the Livingston day school in the 2020-21 campaign.
Eva Andrews, Trenton Catholic Academy, Team Books and Basketball Academy 16u Squad
As a freshman at Trenton Catholic Academy, the 5-foot-10 Andrews, a guard, dropped in 75 points, collected 26 rebounds, served up 15 dimes, and made 12 thefts in a truncated 14-game schedule this past season.
Not afraid to attack the basket, Andrews also owns a nice outside jumper, including a solid three-point stroke, evident by hitting 13 successful three-point attempts with TCA this past NJ high school season.
She’s also enjoyed a nice AAU season, displaying her tremendous, growing upside.
Most importantly, though, Andrews has shown classroom prowess, with an impressive 3.9 GPA.
Zeynep Ozel — Blair Academy — Team Sharp 16U 2024
Ozel is a 5-foot-7 point guard who plays high school hoops for the celebrated Blair Academy program and the renowned Team Sharp AAU outfit that helping to produce some the finest female players going.
Therefore, it is no wonder she’s developing into formidable player.
Team Sharp Head Coach said, “She’s a really good shooter for her age, a great ball-handler, and unselfish.”
In fact, Ozel has been known to break the opposition’s ankles with the way she dazzles when she drops the rock to hardwood and prepares to outmaneuver a defender. — Jerry Del Priore
