Nike Nationals Day 1 Notes
8am Games
Missouri Phenom caught Cal Sparks still sleeping at the 5am PST game time. It got ugly early in this one. The score at half time was 56-17 and it didn’t get any closer. The Phenom had four players in double figures with Mia Nicastro leading the way shooting a perfect 8-8 with 21 points. On the Sparks side, UCONN commit Isuneh Brady was only 1-5 with 2 points. Jailah Donald led the team with 12 points. Cal Sparks Coach Elbert Kinnebrew tweeted an apology for his team’s performance and is going to get them to show up ready tomorrow.
All Iowa Attack came into this as one of the favorites and faced a tough Colorado Premier team without their two team USA players. Stanford Bound Lauren Betts is at training camp for the U19 team and Margaret Mendelson is absent after making the U18 USA Volleyball training team. Colorado kept it close until Iowa pulled away at the end 60-54. Taylor McCabe (15pts, 6 Reb) and Sahara Williams (16pts) led the way for Iowa and Teya Sidberry had 19 points for Colorado.
The big head turner of the day was ProSkills defeating Team Takeover 73-58. ProSkills shot 57% to Takeover’s 35% to upset the defending champs. Jasmyn Lott led ProSkills with 15 and Yonta Vaughn had 17 for Takeover. Team Takeover now faces an uphill battle to defend their title and must get help from either Exodus or Drive Nation to escape Pool D into the Platinum bracket.
