Throughout the course of this month, I will do my best to bring you daily updates on players I’ve seen the previous day. Some articles will include strictly Indiana prospects, while others might include other Midwestern or National prospects. Below is a look at seven additional young ladies who I felt stood out with their play in the games I was able to see Monday at the Battle in the Boro in Louisville, Kentucky. This concluded action for the first “live” period of 2021.
Chloe Jeffers, 2022, 5-10 SF, Rutherford B. Hayes H.S. (OH)
Chloe is a very strong, physical wing forward who plays with the Indiana Elite Blaze group. She seems to enjoy seeking contact and has a tough-nosed approach to the game, but she has a nice, balanced skillset as well. She is a solid North/South athlete who enjoys getting downhill, plus she has good hands and body control, and she can finish at odd angles around the basket. But she also has some touch around the perimeter, solid ball skill, plus good vision and a nice overall feel for the game. I also really like her motor.

Megan is a versatile, do-everything type of player who has done a nice job of stepping up as a scorer lately for her team. She has some length, a wiry, athletic frame, and she moves well in all directions, plus she plays with an outstanding motor. She can defend multiple positions, including the occasional point guard or undersized power forward, and she shows the same versatility offensively. She can knock down an open rhythm jumper consistently, she can initiate the offense when needed, or she can attack the basket.

Alexis is a just a ballplayer who can play either guard spot. She has some length, wiry strength, and she plays with speed and quickness. She has a nonstop motor and can get into the paint to collapse defenses, but she can also shoot it consistently from the perimeter. I start thinking about how much she likes to score the ball, and then you see games where she is the primary point guard and she acts as a distributor. She can have big assists numbers whenever she wants, so her ability to affect the game in a variety of ways is nice.

Kelsey has looked a little leaner and bouncier so far this month, while still maintaining her strength and ability to play with power around the paint. She is uniquely skilled, in that she can play on the block, finish with either hand, or reverse-pivot and shoot over defenders. But she can also play at 22-feet, pass the ball downhill to open cutters, put it on the floor on occasion, or step into a 3-pointer consistently. Ideally, I think she’s probably best suited for the mid-post, because she can flex out to the arc or roll down to the block from there.

Taylor recently transferred to Talawanda High School after spending her first two seasons at Northeastern High School just North of Richmond, Indiana. Taylor is a talented athlete who can run and jump with the best of them. She has an athletic frame, she plays with a nice motor, and she is versatile as a ballplayer. She can handle it, she has tremendous vision, and she’s a nice passer. But she also has the ability to score the ball at all levels. She can finish athletically around the basket, and she can consistently knock down jumpers.

Madelyn has always been a nice basketball player, and I appreciate her skill and versatility. But this past weekend she looked longer, a little leaner, and more fluid and explosive. I think her best trait is her mind for the game and her ability to adapt to just about any situation. Skillfully, though, she can handle it at times and run offense, she is a good perimeter shooter, but she’s also athletic attacking the basket. She works extremely hard, she rebounds her position well, and she can defend bigger guards and small forwards.
Marissa Koschnick, 2024, 5-7 SF, Zionsville Community H.S.
This was my first time watching Marissa at length, and this kid can play. She is a solid all-around athlete with a tremendous motor, but she is another one who really thinks the game at a high level. She began the game I saw with a couple of drives for scores, then she buried a 3-pointer, but from there it was her passing and vision that stood out. Her passes were precise, and she hit teammates through small windows. She’ll need to get a little quicker laterally defensively, but she plays hard at that end and rebounds it fairly well.
