I expect some of these prospects to step into the spotlight this season. Many of the following are replacing talented players from the 2021 class. Therefore, the opportunity awaits.
Let’s jump into the names…
Makayla Brown – Miami Central
The Rockets are replacing 2021’s Kayla Clark Kayla Clark 6'2" | C Miami Central | 2021 State FL and Tatiana Jackson. The pair combined for over 26 points per game and helped Miami Central win ten games. Moreover, Clark averaged over 12 boards per contests. That leaves 2023 Makayla Brown with added responsibility this fall. The 5-foot-9 forward averaged six points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season. Against North Miami (13-11), she recorded a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds. The loss in production from the 2021 class gives Brown an open window to succeed. Look for her to run with it this fall.
Desiree Sinclair– North Miami
The Pioneers lose Carla Jean Carla Jean 5'5" | CG North Miami | 2021 State FL , Kouraje Johnson Kouraje Johnson SF North Miami | 2021 State FL , and Jacqueline Bellot to graduation. One of their returning leaders is 2022 Desiree Sinclair. What jumps out is her size (5’10’) and length at forward. Sinclair averaged just under seven points per game across six contests. However, she did score 15 points against Kilian (9-6) and twenty against Miami Palmetto (11-3). The potential is there for her to have a big season.
Jada Donaldson – Miami Norland
2022 Jada Donaldson has the frame (5’11) to be a bigger contributor at guard or forward. Her length gives her position versatility on most nights. As a junior, Donaldson averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Moreover, she reached double-figures in four games. Donaldson scored a season-high 17 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the floor against Miami Central. I would like to see more of those performances next season.
Samantha Vales Samantha Vales 5'3" | CG Sports Leadership And Management | 2024 State FL – Miami Christian
2024 Samantha Vales Samantha Vales 5'3" | CG Sports Leadership And Management | 2024 State FL got some playing time last season for a good Miami Christian team. The 5-foot-3 guard averaged 6.1 points per game while shooting 39 percent from the floor. Moreover, Vales went 17-of-48 (35 percent) from 3-point range. She scored a season-high 17 points against McArthur and had four other games in double-figures. At the least, Vales gained some experience heading into the fall. I still expect Vales to increase her totals as a sophomore.
Maria Paula Garcia – Schoolhouse Prep
2023 Maria Paul Garcia has the size some college programs might look for. The 6-foot power forward/center averaged 7.9 points and a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game last season. Moreover, she posted five games in double-figures. A very good rebounder; Paula Garcia recorded nine games with eight or more boards. She can shield off her defender and create easy grabs off the glass. Paula Garcia joins a good junior class for the Wolfpack with Rhema Collins.
