Continue ReadingWednesday was the second day of North Tartan’s annual Meltdown in Minneapolis. I was out at Hopkins High School all day taking in the majority of the top divisions. DI college coaches were in attendance and there were coaches filling the baseline almost all day long for every game. It really is a great opportunity for the kids to be able to stand out after a year and a half of no college coaches. Below I share my five standouts from the second day of action.
Ayla Brown – 5’6 PG – 2023 – Becker HS (MN) – Minnesota Comets Elite 2023
Brown really impressed me on Wednesday as she ran the point for her team. She’s a quick and shifty guard who gets downhill really well. Brown has a good first step allowing her to get separation from her man easily. I really like her ability to pass the ball as she displays really solid court vision. Brown also shot the ball fairly well when I watched her play.
Jaeden Pratt – 5’8 SG – 2025 – Ankeny Centennial HS (IA) – Kingdom Hoops 2024
Pratt is a very athletic and bouncy guard who moves well in all directions. She’s a step ahead of the other team when she plays as she just processes the game so quickly. She shot the ball well from the perimeter as well in the game showing a part of her game that I really wanted to see. I was extremely impressed with her ability to take care of the ball as well.
Claire Sheppard – 6’1 SF – 2024 – Egan HS (SD) – South Dakota Attack 2024
Sheppard is a very long wing who is positionless right now as she can play almost any spot on the floor. I thought that she did a really nice job of shooting the ball, but also got to the rim well yesterday. She’s a really nice defender as well as she uses her length to defend the perimeter well. She’s going to be a high level player for years to come.
Aubrey Galvan – 5’6 PG – 2025 – Deerfield HS (IL) – Full Package 2022 Black
Galvan is a small but very good point guard who plays with a bit of flair. She handles the ball really well and sees the floor extremely well. I thought that she shot it very well and showed the ability to hit an array of floaters in the lane. I’ve been really impressed with her all week long and on Wednesday I thought she played the best I’ve seen her play.
Callin Hake – 5’9 G – 2022 – Chanhassen HS (MN) – Minnesota Fury UAA 2022 – Nebraska commit
Hake is a smooth guard who can play on or off ball seamlessly. She shot the ball well from the perimeter yesterday and was able to initiate the offense very well. I love her ability to play with pace and always can dictate the tempo of the game very well. She’s a really nice guard who does very little wrong. She makes winning plays no matter who she plays for or against.
