A couple Michigan grassroots teams came home with USJN Blue Star National championships.
Tri-County Hoopers 2022
The Tri-County Hoopers team returned to Michigan with a USJN Blue Star Nationals title. Their outstanding weekend was highlighted by a championship game against a very talented WI Playground Elite squad. The Hoopers were the better team from the opening tip and rolled a 62-47 victory. While many players were excellent at the Blue Star Nationals, Lina Rea Lina Rea PG Utica | 2022 State MI (2022, PG, Utica) sent a message in the finals. She finished the game with 26 points scored. Rea absolutely dominated on the offensive end. She showed off a confident jumper and vastly underrated ball skills. One of the most impressive aspects of her performance was the fact that she didn’t just score the basketball, but she effectively ran the offense. This was just another great performance in an outstanding overall grassroots season for Rea.
Michigan Premier 15u Blue
The Michigan Premier team walked away with a USJN Blue Star Nationals championship. The well rounded team flaunted a roster full of players with bright futures and next level talent. The battled to a 48-45 championship game win. Michigan Premier was led by Anna Richards (2024, PG, Lansing Catholic) and Leah Richards Leah Richards 6'0" | PF Lansing Catholic | 2024 State MI (2024, PF, Lansing Catholic). Both players were named Pool All Stars at the event. With these 2 athletes in the mix, Lansing Catholic will be a must see team come high school season. Anna Richards showed off excellent ball skills and proved that she can both score and dish the ball out at a high level. Leah Richards Leah Richards 6'0" | PF Lansing Catholic | 2024 State MI had the look of a versatile post that can play from multiple spots on the floor.
