It’s about continued growth in their game. And that continued growth will translate into numbers, and in many cases, a breakout season. We will take a look at some ranked athletes in the class of 2024 that, in my opinion, will have breakout sophomore seasons.
Devin Hagemann Devin Hagemann 5'6" | PG Detroit Edison | 2024 State MI (PG, Detroit Edison)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #9
Yes, a number 9 ranked player can have a breakout season. With the depth and talent at DEPSA, it can be hard to grab a ton of minutes as a freshman. Right now, Hagemann. She’s currently averaging 9 points per game and just over 3 assists per game at the 2021 Nike Nationals. With the way Hagemann is playing, a breakout season seems inevitable.
Kate Stemmer Kate Stemmer 5'6" | SG Saline | 2024 State MI (SG, Saline)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #22
Stemmer had her super talented older sister by her side last season. With the elder Stemmer having moved on to collegiate basketball, Kate is waiting in the wings. Here’s what you may (or may not) know: The younger sibling is every bit as talented.
Madelyn Geers Madelyn Geers 5'9" | SG Kent City | 2024 State MI (SG, Kent City)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #32
Geers is well known by basketball enthusiasts across the state, but she is really close to becoming a household name. With her ability to play both ends of the floor, her versatility and her constant improvement, we could see a big spike in her numbers next season.
Jada Collins Jada Collins 6'1" | SF Kalamazoo Central | 2024 State MI (SF, Kalamazoo Central)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #33
Collins is a prospect that should be drawing a ton of looks now and in the near future. She really impressed over the course of grassroots season. Collins has top notch athleticism and can make things happen attacking off the wing. Her positional size makes her a difficult matchup.
Layla Marshall Layla Marshall 5'8" | SG Westfield Prep | 2024 State MI (SG, Westfield Prep)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #59
Quite simply, Marshall is underrated. She’s going to be a terror for opponents come high school season. Marshall has the potential to be one of the top defenders in the state someday. She understands how to play pressure defense and attack off of it.
