June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and for the Class of 2022, they start a lot of “lasts”…their last Summer of grassroots basketball, their last high school season, their last run at conference and state tournament titles, and their last opportunities to make impressions on college coaches who have been recruiting them. On the whole, the 2022 list expanded from 200 prospects to 225 prospects, and there was some movement throughout the entirety of the list. As it relates to the 2022 2-guard group, there are 47 ladies who have acquired a spot within the Top-225, and eight of them are new to the list on PGH Indiana. With a full Spring season “in the books” for the first time since 2019, it helped to provide more clarity as to who the better prospects are throughout the state. Below is a look at those 47 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis of the newcomers, plus a handful of additional girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in March.
Newcomers
As it relates to the Class of 2022, a 25-player expansion is part of the emphasis with regards to our Summer rankings. As we expanded from 200 to 225 prospects, eight young ladies at the 2-guard position are new to the rankings list this time around. They are highlighted below, and if you know them, I think you’d agree they belong here.
Zaya Adagbada Zaya Adagbada 5'7" | SG Avon | 2022 TX , Avon H.S. – Zaya wasn’t really on anyone’s radar, but by the end of the high school season, she was Avon’s third leading scorer, and she will be their leading returning scorer in 2021-2022. She has really good length, she’s a fluid athlete with some bounce to her, and she is a programmed scorer. She can knock down the perimeter jumper consistently, plus she’s good attacking the basket.
Kiera Guckenberger Kiera Guckenberger 5'7" | SG Brownsburg | 2022 State IN , Brownsburg H.S. – After transferring in from Franklin Community this past year, Kiera gave the Bulldogs another wing player with a “team first” mindset, plus she is quietly tough-nosed kid who plays with a motor. She has some versatility, she can take care of the ball, get it where it needs to go, plus she can knock down an open 3-pointer, she makes her free throws, and she’ll rebound & defend.
Taylor Lynch Taylor Lynch 5'9" | SG Madison Consolidated | 2022 State IN , Madison Consolidated H.S. – Taylor has really helped herself this Spring, playing grassroots ball for the first time that I can remember. She has an athletically strong frame, she’s a really nice North/South athlete, and she has some bounce to her. Taylor is probably better-suited to play off the ball at the next level, as she can score it from all three levels. But she can play a point guard role in high school as well.
Grace Weston Grace Weston 5'6" | SG Westville | 2022 State IN , Westville H.S. – Grace is a nice basketball player who has good skill, a nice motor, and she’s a tough kid as well. She has a fairly strong frame for her size, she can handle it on occasion and initiate the offense, but she’s also a capable perimeter shooter, plus she can get downhill and draw contact. I just like her overall feel and understanding of the game, and I think she’ll help a college program win games.

Keep an eye on…
Gracie Bobo Gracie Bobo 5'10" | SG Penn | 2022 State IN , Penn H.S. – Gracie has always been one of the more skillful kids in the 2022 class, but at one time she was bouncing back and forth between positions. She seems to have settled in as more of a scoring guard, as she has really done a nice job of continuing her consistent shooting and added a solid mid-range game, plus she’s attacking the basket with a lot more intent. She also has good size for the position.
Alaysha Brandenberger Alaysha Brandenberger 5'6" | CG Boonville | 2022 State IN , Boonville H.S. – Alaysha has put up big numbers for Boonville throughout her career, and this Spring she’s doing the same for her grassroots team. She is a strong, tough-nosed, low-to-the-ground guard who has become such a good scorer and a high-level shooter. She has point guard skill, but why limit her scoring prowess? I would want to put her in a position to score each possession.
Delainey Shorter Delainey Shorter 5'7" | SG Sullivan | 2022 State IN , Sullivan H.S. – I briefly mentioned Delainey in the point guard article when talking about her twin, Gracie Shorter Gracie Shorter 5'5" | PG Sullivan | 2022 State IN (2022 PG). Delainey is a bit taller, but she has that same intense, fierce motor, and she just outplays her matchups each time out. She isn’t as much of a primary ball-handler, and she doesn’t necessarily look to score as much as her sister, but she has those same skills and abilities.
Ryan Viele Ryan Viele 5'8" | CG Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN , Hamilton Southeastern H.S. – This is my fourth Spring/Summer watching Ryan play, and she was so tiny when she was younger, that it’s fun to see her transformation. She is incredibly long, fluidly athletic, and she’s playing with much more confidence. She seeks contact now, and she looks to finish inside as much as she looks to shoot or make plays for others. I also think she’s a really nice defender.
Abigail Young Abigail Young 5'8" | SG Mooresville | 2022 State IN , Mooresville H.S. – Abigail put together an impressive Spring, and she was highlighted because of her play at the PGH Circuit events. She has a strong frame with some length, she’s a solid athlete in most directions, and she plays with an outstanding motor. I also like the balance in her skillset. She can handle it a little, create or run offense, she can get to the hoop, plus she’s a capable perimeter shooter.
