June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and for the Class of 2022, they start a lot of “lasts”…their last Summer of grassroots basketball, their last high school season, their last run at conference and state tournament titles, and their last opportunities to make impressions on college coaches who have been recruiting them. On the whole, the 2022 list expanded from 200 prospects to 225 prospects, and there was some movement throughout the entirety of the list. As it relates to the 2022 center group, there are 26 ladies who have acquired a spot within the Top-225, and four of them are new to the list on PGH Indiana. With a full Spring season “in the books” for the first time since 2019, it helped to provide more clarity as to who the better prospects are throughout the state. Below is a look at those 26 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis of the newcomers, plus a handful of additional girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in March.
Newcomers
As it relates to the Class of 2022, a 25-player expansion is part of the emphasis with regards to our Summer rankings. As we expanded from 200 to 225 prospects, four young ladies at the center position are new to the rankings list this time around. They are highlighted below, and if you know them, I think you’d agree they belong here.
Kaitlyn Carothers Kaitlyn Carothers 6'0" | C Columbus East | 2022 State IN , Columbus East H.S. – On a school team with tremendous size, Kaitlyn is one of the more physical, enforcing type of kids. She has a strong frame, she likes playing with contact, and she can patrol the paint and deter opposing drivers. Offensively, she is more of a back-to-the-basket post with solid hands and a few quick finishing moves. If she can extend her game to 15-feet consistently, it will help.
Anna Guiff, Avon H.S. – Anna was at Covenant Christian on the West Side of Indianapolis for her first two years of high school, averaging 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as a Sophomore. But she moved to Avon last Summer and was relegated to Junior Varsity due to transfer rules. She has tremendous length, wiry strength, and a lot of bounce and activity in her game. She’ll just need to continue building strength.
Alexis Mimms Alexis Mimms 6'0" | C Avon | 2022 State IN , Avon H.S. – Alexis was new to me as of this Winter, she is still developing her game, but she has the upside to become a nice small college prospect. She has an athletically strong frame, and she plays with a nice motor. She can act as an active and bouncy athlete, plus she’s strong enough to play with contact inside. Right now she’s more of a rebounder/defender, but she’s starting to stretch her game.
Audrey Voss Audrey Voss 5'11" | C Daleville | 2022 State IN , Daleville H.S. – Audrey is a bit deceiving for opponents who haven’t scouted her. She has a broad, strong frame, and she loves physicality anywhere on the floor. She’ll fight for post position, battle for rebounds, and act as an enforcer defensively. But she is also a capable 3-point shooter who will step out after setting ball-screens, plus she’ll occasionally handle it in transition when lightly contested.
Keep an eye on…
Isabelle Miller Isabelle Miller 6'1" | C Southmont | 2022 State IN , Southmont H.S. – Isabelle spent a couple of years away from grassroots basketball, but she returned this Spring and was a bigger, stronger, much more physical interior player. She possesses a lot of skill for a post, and I think her versatility is most attractive to small colleges. She can play around the block, she has touch and ball skill in the mid-post, and she’s even comfortable around the perimeter.
Abby Sanner Abby Sanner 6'2" | C Warsaw | 2022 State IN , Warsaw Community H.S. – Abby has always been a top post amongst her peers, and she will letter for the fourth time this Winter. She has nice strength and good length, she’s a solid athlete in most directions, but her motor and activity this Spring has been inspiring. She is playing with a much greater sense of urgency, she is initiating contact, plus she’s showing an enhanced skillset away from the basket.
Meredith Weiss Meredith Weiss 6'0" | PF Vincennes Rivet | 2022 State IN , Vincennes Rivet H.S. – Meredith is another front-liner who has missed the last couple of grassroots seasons, though I believe she has dealt with some injuries. She has an athletically strong frame and plays with a great motor. She can play with some physicality, but she is more of a mid-post center who likes to put it on the floor for a couple of dribbles and attack. She also has nice touch to 15-feet.
