The depth and quality of players that we’ve seen really shows just how good girls basketball in this state is. In this article, we’re revisiting the NJ Shoreshots and their 16U team.
There’s still plenty of players left on this team to talk about, so we’ll be going back to the tape to see what makes these prospects stand out.
We start off with rising junior Amanda Paterno, a 5-8 guard from Middletown who’s shown a lot of growth this summer and has all the makings of a playmaking guard.
The first thing that really stood out watching her tape is her on-court agility and speed.

She’s making plays on both ends without skipping a beat, and that ability to stay active and dominant on both sides of the floor is only going to help get better and stronger in the long run.
Paterno is a solid shooter, someone who doesn’t need to rely on the three because she’s strong on the dribble drive, staying aggressive as she finds her way into the paint. Don’t discount her passing either as she’s really developed her craft when it comes to assisting.
Alongside Paterno is rising junior Breana Delaney, a 5-9 guard from St. John Vianney. We’ve had the ability to talk about a number of SJV players so far, and Delaney is part of that next great group of talent coming from this program.

The first thing that stood out to us on the tape was a play she made on defense at a recent tournament which was an impressive display of her tenacity and grit on the floor.
She nearly stole a pass, deflecting it, but her opponent retained possession. However, that was short-lived as she tracked back and made a close-down block right in front of the net.
That, combined with an aggressive play style on offense really sets her apart from the rest come this fall.
The last player we’ll be talking about in this article is rising junior Angelina Banas, a 6-0 forward from Notre Dame HS and someone who really uses her height and length to her advantage.
Check out my highlights from the HGSL Championship Weekend in Atlantic City. I had a lot of fun learning with my team, and the competition was great! @ShoreshotsGirls @DevStillOD @CoachTinyGreen @MBHoops10 @laurenbowls pic.twitter.com/yR0F2ELqmz

That six-foot frame allows her to tower over opponents in the lane and receive passes up high to push the tempo of the offensive possession into the lane. Banas is not afraid to bully her opponent when on the offensive end, making great use of the backboard and the entire rim.
She crashes the boards really well, and as you can imagine with someone this dominant on the block, Banas is a fantastic shot-blocker who meets the ball at its peak instead of standing back.
She doesn’t wait for the ball to come to her; she goes to the ball, and oftentimes, that’s a nightmare situation for her opponent as it often leads to a fast break the other way.
We’ll be continuing our AAU search as the summer winds down, so keep your eyes peeled for more content from Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey.
