From the 17U teams, Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey moves onto the 16U-Diamond roster, one full of talent from Central and North Jersey.
Let’s take a look at the tape, going through highlights and statistics to see what makes these players names to watch coming into the fall.
We begin this article looking at rising junior Tabitha DeVries, a 6-1 forward from Hunterdon Central who is expected to take on a larger role on the interior for the Red Devils for this upcoming high school season.
What we’ve seen during this AAU season is exponential growth on the block as she’s really shown much more agility and quickness as a forward, a much more mobile playmaker on the court. Based on last year’s statistics, we’re going to see a jump in production in a big way, especially on the defensive end.
What DeVries brings to the court with her 6-1 frame is someone who uses her height to her advantage, making her presence felt on the interior and making it a nightmare for opponents to score.
If she can continue to hone in on that, she’s going to turn into one of the best forwards in the state along with elite shot-blocking potential.
From DeVries, we go from Hunterdon Central to North Hunterdon and 5-10 rising junior Emma Hall, who features as both a guard and forward, on United and has the talent to excel in either position group.
Hall can really do it all on the court, a prolific scorer, a great passer, strong rebounder, great defensive presence and a reliable three-point shooter. She’s a stat sheet stuffer, which shows how much of a well-rounded player she is.
It’s really impressive watching how she can carve up an opponent on the offensive end and then break them down on the defensive end. We’ve seen her take that next step forward toward stardom this summer and it’s going to translate in a big way come the fall.
The last player we’ll be discussing in this article is rising junior Olivia Weiss, a standout 5-8 guard from West Essex who led the Knights in scoring and rebounding during the 2021 season. Weiss plays with aggression on the floor, showcasing hard-nosed defense and strong finishing on offense.
Based on last year’s high school season, we were looking forward to seeing how much she’s continued to work on her three-point shooting. After shooting it well in the spring, Weiss has looked more and more comfortable from the perimeter and it’s paid dividends in her overall play.
She’s already a multi-dimensional guard who can shoot, pass, rebound and defend as well as just about anyone in the state. The more she continues to hone in on her strengths, the more that will set her apart from the rest.
Keep following Prep Girls Hoops for the remainder of the summer as we take closer looks at the best of the best AAU talent in New Jersey.
