This group showed a lot of grit and attention to detail on both ends of the floor. With still a lot of time to grow their game and improve on the skills that they each already possess, the 2024 class will be one to watch. Take a look at some of the top standouts in this age group that I saw at the tournament.
2024 6’2″ #5 Jada Bates Jada Bates 6'3" | SF McEachern | 2024 State GA (AOT 2023)
Jada Bates Jada Bates 6'3" | SF McEachern | 2024 State GA has major BCS potential and is a player who is going to continue to get a lot of attention. First play of the game, she gets the tip and takes it quickly for the easy lay-up. When she has her eyes on the basket, she is going to be tough to stop. Can finish with either hand and also take care of the ball when necessary. She makes the effort to find a body to block out each time a shot went up. Bates is a multiple position player that makes big plays on both ends of the floor. This is a name to keep your eyes out for in the future.
2024 6’3″ #12 Arianna Roberson (Players First 17u)
Roberson is another long and athletic big with D1 potential. She can shoot the ball well but also has the ability to get to the basket and finish quickly around the rim. Arianna is a player with a very high basketball IQ that really knows the ends and outs of the game. This came in handy for her when playing up against some players that have had some more time to develop their game. She stood out against others on the floor, not just because of her size but because of the soft-touch that she seemed to have with the ball. Nothing was ever forced with her, it all just came very naturally. A high-quality player that is extremely versatile.
2024 5’11″ #22 Toni Warren Toni Warren 6'0" | SF Cherokee | 2024 State GA (AOT 2023)
Warren is an extremely skilled, long, and athletic guard that really carries herself well on the court. She finds any way she can to secure the rebound and makes sure to explode towards the rim once she gets the O-board. Able to draw the foul down low and sink her free throws throughout the game. Handles the ball well during pressure and will make the unselfish play. This is a player that I would describe as a “finisher” 100%. Great energy and I believe that she has high D1 potential at the rate she is performing now.
2024 6’0″ #23 Jaedyn Sharp (Alabama Twisters Elite Johnson)
Jaedyn is an aggressive, 6-foot, versatile player that can get to the hole in traffic with either hand whenever she wants. Big-time energy booster for her team whether she is in the game or on the bench. She is the kind of player who takes pride in getting stops down low on the defensive end of the court. Very tough to score on but is hard to stop defensively when she has the ball in her hands going coast-to-coast. Has the ability to rebound the offensive board high and get the ball up the court by quickly finding the outlet pass. Fun player to watch!
2024 6’3″ #44 Vivian Iwuchukwu (Players First 17u)
To me, Vivian was the overall standout of the 2024 class at this event. This is a name that you will be hearing in the girls’ basketball scene over the next few years. She is strong with the ball whenever it is in her hands and she knows the right place to put the ball for the open shot. Iwuchukwu is big, tough, and super athletic. She is a physical player that can out-rebound anyone that she is matched up with the majority of the time. Ability to finish high around the rim and will seek out the contact for the ’and-1’ play. Runs the floor well and is a great team player.
