Kennedy Basham Kennedy Basham 6'7" | C Pinnacle | 2022 State #16 Nation AZ is a six-foot-seven. senior to be at PHH Prep in Phoenix. The recent transfer from Pinnacle High School helped PHH Prep win the girls’ national championship and finished with an overall 40-3 record. She also plays for her grassroots team, Arizona Select, and is rated the number one center in Arizona for the class of 2022. She has narrowed her list of college choices to six – Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Duke, Louisville, and Oregon. Her older brother Carson is a six-foot-elven center and committed to Pepperdine. During her last year at Pinnacle, Kennedy averaged 17.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks which was second-best in the state. She was selected to the AZCentral All-Arizona team in 2020.
In one game last season she scored 11 points (7 of 8 free throws), grabbed 11 rebounds, and had five assists and six blocks. One scout commented on her game. “She’s more of a guard prospect than a center – fluid and agile. She is physically built like a runway model and enjoys the profession. Kennedy has an excellent smile and personality and will have a tremendous impact on women’s basketball over time. She will be a game-changer for the college program she chooses.”
Another scout summed up Kennedy’s game this way. “She has very good low post footwork and an advanced feel for the game. She has also a nice jump shot that is very difficult to defend. She is an amazing defender and shot blocker. She is an active rebounder who also who rebounds very well out of her area.” Kennedy is ready for an outstanding senior season.
Saniyah Neverson Saniyah Neverson 6'0" | PF PHH Prep | 2022 State AZ is a six-foot-one forward who transferred from Valley Vista last summer to PHH Prep in Phoenix. As a freshman for the Monsoon, she averaged 7.5 points a game and 9.0 rebounds a contest while hitting 52% from the field. As a sophomore, she averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Valley Vista won the 6A State Championship while Saniyah was there.in 2020, beating Hamilton High School, 42-38.
On scout commented on her game. “Saniyah has elite hands and finishes well at the basket. She is also able to guard multiple positions. She is one that college coaches will want to get to know.” Another scout evaluated her summer play with Arizona Select 17U. “She showed her ability to do a little of everything. She hit threes, played well at the elbow, set up great screens, and is a crafty finisher. She can guard from 2-5 in the halfcourt and trap anywhere in full court.” Her PHH Prep team won the girls’ national championship in 2021 and finished 40-3.
Another coach had this to say about Saniyah. “She continues to keep getting better. She has worked her way to being a consistent three-point threat as a stretch 4. She does all the little things to win games. She has great hands and is an outstanding offensive rebounder.” The college offers are coming as she gets ready for her last season with the PHH Prep Fire.
Jayla Scott Jayla Scott 6'1" | PF Vista Grande | 2022 State AZ is a six-foot-one power forward for Vista Grande High School in Casa Grande. The Lady Spartans only finished 7-8 last season and 4-4 in the Black Canyon Conference. Jayla averaged a double-double in 2021, with 20.4 points a game and 12.6 rebounds. She also averaged 4.5 blocks per game. In one game, against Cortez High School, she had a triple-double. Both her points per game average and her rebounding per game have increased in each of her three years at Vista Grande. Her freshman year she averaged 6.0 points a game and 1.6 rebounds. As a sophomore, those numbers increased to 11.9 and 4.2, respectively. As a junior, she put up 20.4 points and 12.6 rebounds. She was the Pinal County Player of the Year.
Jayla’s Head Coach, Ryan Barrett, talked about her game. “She can do more than just play in the paint. She can play just about any position and occasionally will bring the ball up the floor. She has taken her game to another level. Jayla can shoot, attack the basket, and bring the ball up the floor.” With 789 career points over three years, she should reach 1,000 during the 2021-2022 season. From November of 2018 through last March she was selected as Player of the Game by Max Preps a total of 17 times.
By the way, Jayla is also an outstanding volleyball player. In two years for the Lady Spartans, she has 93 kills and 54 solo blocks. She should be ready for an outstanding senior season.
Samantha Lyle Samantha Lyle 6'2" | PF Saguaro | 2022 State AZ is a six-foot-two senior at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale. The Lady Sabercats finished 10-9 last season and only 3-5 in the 4A Desert Sky Conference. As a junior, she averaged 17.4 points per game and 10.0 rebounds. She also shot 59% from the floor. Averaging a double-double for the season, Samantha was named Player of the Game by Max Preps a total of three times in 2021. She was selected to the All-Regional first team in her conference.
In two different weeks in 2021, she was nominated for Player of the Week. For the week of February 15, she had two double-doubles – 30 points and 11 rebounds in one game and 18 points and 15 boards in another. Samantha closed out the season with 27 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to ALA-Queen Creek. An outstanding scorer, defender, and rebounder, she is ready for a breakout senior season.
