Area code 901 is littered with talented young student-athletes who could play at any collegiate level. Some have been discovered, yet there are still some diamonds in the rough which haven’t yet been uncovered. From the girls who can excel in the transition game, to those who excel in half-court sets, Memphis hoops have those girls who can fit into any system out there.
The lineage for young ladies in the hoops world runs deep in these parts. With influences from family, the bloodlines of athleticism run deep. Girls in the 901 area are starting to get the notoriety they have been working hard to obtain. Known for the grit and grind, this area has the “dawg mentality” of getting the job done by any means necessary. They’re some hard-working folks out here, and don’t be surprised if you see an influx of names from this area on some big-time collegiate rosters.
PGH Tennessee will be keeping our eyes out for prospects in the 901 and surrounding counties. These girls are doing their part about keeping Tennessee on the map as a place coaches should recruit. We’ve always said Tennessee is rich in talent. Let 901 be a versatile recruiting ground for any collegiate program.
Here are some prospects you should keep your eye on for the 2021-2022 high school season.
Kaitlyn Eubanks Kaitlyn Eubanks 5'10" | PF Fayette Academy | 2022 State TN (5’10/ C/ Fayette Academy)– With great instincts for the ball, Kaitlyn seems to always be in the right place at the right time. She has great footwork in the painted area, to go along with a nice mid-range game. She thrives with her back to the basket, where she can unleash a bevy of moves. Defensively, she can deter shots and controls the boards. Great kid who can get up and down the floor.
Crysti’anna “Shaq” Whitehead (5’11/SF/ Memphis Business Academy)– Hardworking young lady who has a sweet stroke. This young lady is very efficient from beyond the arc. Though shooting the rock is her forte, she can put the ball on the floor to get to the cup as well. She is a tremendous talent who plays the game with passion. She’s a good two-way player who loves competition.
Clemisha Prackett (6’2/ C / West Memphis)– Long and lanky, this young lady is a tenacious defender. She is a rim protector that can deter shots left and right. Her athleticism allows her to get up and down the floor. She is a beast on the boards, where she thrives at putbacks. She has a nice mid-range game that complements her ability to finish around the rim against contact.
Keria McGhee Keria McGhee 5'7" | CG Memphis Central | 2022 State TN (5’7/ CG/ Millington)– All-around athlete who is a flat-out hustler on both ends of the floor. This young lady is a stat stacker as she leads her club in many columns. From getting to the hole to let fly from deep, she knows how to utilize her speed and quickness as an asset.
Nyasia Jackson (5’2/ PG/ Marion)– Playmaking defender with a high motor, this intelligent floor general is a catalyst for her club. She is the tempo setter and that ignites her club’s momentum. From creating turnovers to delivering timely passes, this young lady knows how to get everyone involved. She can handle the ball, attack gaps, has a nice mid-range game, and can finish against contact. Defensively, she is a lockdown defender looking to create havoc the full length of the floor.
Shamari Hamlett Shamari Hamlett 5'6" | PG Bartlett | 2024 State TN (5’6/ PG/ Bartlett)– Pure hooper. Has great handles that allow her to get to the rim and also push the ball in transition. Has a great basketball IQ and can see the floor tremendously. Can create her own shot in the painted area or let it fly from deep. Double-teaming her is a mistake. Defensively, she anticipates well and can harass opponents like no other. As she gains more confidence, look for her to come on even stronger than before.
Nakiya Westbrook (5’5/ PG/ Collierville)– Lockdown defender who doesn’t shy away from doing the dirty work. Her job is to get those transition buckets. She has great handles that enable her the ability to slash through gaps and get to the rim. Has a nice stroke from the arc and is equipped with a nice first step. She is a go-getter who thrives when the lights come on.
Kayla Dotson Kayla Dotson 5'6" | PG Memphis Overton | 2022 State TN (5’6/ PG/ Memphis Overton)– Nice ballplayer who can create havoc with the ball in her hands. She is a downhill go-getter, that likes to shoot the mid-range or get to the cup. Defensively, she anticipates well, which leads to turnovers or deflections. A hard worker who excels at making sure she gets her teammates the ball in a timely manner.
