The Updated Class of 2022 Rankings saw a ton of talented players climb into the top 100 for the first time. This is the first rankings update that accounts for the 2021 season so, given the challenges with observing players throughout 2020, there are some big movers after the ’21 season. Ten newcomers proved enough in the past year to crack the top 100 in their rankings debut. Here they are:
Lauren Herman Lauren Herman 5'10" | SF Holyoke | 2022 State CO – Holyoke – #44
- Leaping up the rankings after a huge junior year is this 5’10” South Dakota Mines commit. Herman was dominant for the Dragons, averaging 12.6 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 5.5 APG, and 2.8 SPG. She tallied ten double-doubles, knocked down 38% behind the arc, and even logged a triple-double on February 23 with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists against Haxtun. Herman and fellow senior, Kristin Vieselmeyer Kristin Vieselmeyer 6'1" | PF Holyoke | 2022 State CO , have Holyoke poised for a memorable upcoming season.
Trista Marx Trista Marx 5'11" | PF Limon | 2022 State CO – Limon – #46
- After a 27-point bomb in the state championship game, Marx could go unnoticed no longer. At 5’11” with a full arsenal of post moves, Marx spent championship Sunday at the free throw line, going 11-17 and slowly dismantling a very good Wray team. Marx put together a jewel of a season scoring 1.5 points per shot to average 17.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 4.8 SPG.
Jackie Stephenson Jackie Stephenson 5'10" | PF Mead | 2022 CO – Mead – #61
- As the scoring, rebounds, and blocks leader on the fast-rising Mead team, the only surprise about seeing Stephenson on this list is that she’s not higher. She’s 5’11” and a top-tier athlete (as I wrote about here) who dropped 12.3 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.4 SPG, 2.0 APG, and 1.3 BPG for the Mavericks. Mead has plenty of weapons, but if you forget about Stephenson she’ll drop 31 on you like she did against Northridge on March 6th.
Adrianna Baker Adrianna Baker 5'9" | CG ThunderRidge | 2022 State CO – ThunderRidge – #64
- This non-traditional combo guard puts the thunder in ThunderRidge. Baker is a strong, aggressive, physical driver with the skillset of a point guard and the toughness of a center. She jumped from 2.9 to 9.1 PPG this season, helping the Grizzlies stay in the middle third of the loaded Continental League after losing a top class in 2020.
Gabby Beauperthuy Gabby Beauperthuy 5'11" | PF Doherty | 2022 State CO – Doherty – #75
- Very deserving of a high ranking is this skilled, 5’11”, inside-outside threat. Beauperthuy adds so much of the muscle that Doherty basketball is known for. She contributed an efficient 8.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG while proving she can knock down outside shots, too (31% behind the arc).
Olivia Sears Olivia Sears 5'5" | PG Green Mountain | 2022 State CO – Green Mountain – #77
- After back-to-back 4A Final Fours, the Green Mountain guards got some love in the rankings. Olivia Sears Olivia Sears 5'5" | PG Green Mountain | 2022 State CO debuts at #77. What she lacks in height she more than makes up for in playmaking ability. Sears’ highlights are full of charges taken, deflections, no-look assists (3.5 APG), and euro finishes. For teams that thought they could triangle-and-two the Rams, Sears made them pay by hitting 42% of her three point shots. As an outstanding ball handler, she can also serve as a one-person press break.
Shea Murphy Shea Murphy 5'6" | PG Green Mountain | 2022 State CO – Green Mountain – #89
- Murphy is the type of player who can get to the rim anytime she wants but doesn’t force it and does not turn the ball over. She’s near the top in the state in assist to turnover ratio (2.2) and does a great job selflessly creating for her teammates. As a four-year varsity staple for the Rams, Murphy could end up playing in more wins than anyone in Green Mountain history.
Shayne Young Shayne Young 5'10" | CG Fort Collins | 2022 State CO – Fort Collins – #90
Laura Davis Laura Davis 6'0" | PF Fort Collins | 2022 State CO – Fort Collins – #91
- Fort Collins’ two leading scorers, Shayne Young Shayne Young 5'10" | CG Fort Collins | 2022 State CO and Laura Davis Laura Davis 6'0" | PF Fort Collins | 2022 State CO , debut in the rankings at #90 and #91, respectively. At 5’10”, Young (8.5 PPG) moves like a guard, grabbing 2.2 SPG and dishing 1.8 APG, while hitting 22 threes. Davis has a little more height (6’0″) and hit 10.0 PPG and 8.1 RPG last season. Together they have the Lambkins on the ups for another year after approaching .500 at 6-8 this past season.
Elizabeth Rooks Elizabeth Rooks 5'11" | PF Prospect Ridge Academy | 2022 State CO – Prospect Ridge Academy – #97
- This 5’11” Miner had a heck of a breakout season. Even with lower competition, when you post 15.0 PPG and 12.3 RPG at an efficiency of 1.2 points per shot, you have some talent. As Rooks develops her shot to match her skills around the basket, she could become a talked-about prospect from the newer program at Prospect Ridge Academy.
Kelsey Koza Kelsey Koza 5'6" | CG Severance | 2022 State CO – Severance – #100
- Koza came in at #100 but she’s easily a player who could still shoot up the list in the coming year with her ability to push the pace and shoot the rock. At 12.5 PPG and 36% behind the arc, she’s a huge reason Severance has gone from a startup to a beast in 4A. The 5’6″ leader has the IQ to know when to shoot and when to dish to her talented teammates. I’ve seen Severance play a couple of times and Koza is one to watch and sign during her senior year.
