In this article, we leave the top 10, looking at the tenth, eleventh and twelfth-best players in New Jersey as ranked through the PGH NJ staff.
Montana Nicks Montana Nicks 5'5" | SG Dwight-Englewood | 2023 State NJ – SG, Dwight-Englewood
Nicks was a 20-point scorer on average this spring for Dwight-Englewood, an absolute scoring machine in her own right and already the unquestionable leader of that team coming into this season.
She put up a career-high 39 points in mid-February, literally outscoring Dwight-Morrow on her own in the game and had four other 25+ point performances. Nicks has been quite the complete player over her two seasons so far in high school, showing the ability to adapt on the floor on both sides of the ball.
Nicks is a strong three-point shooter and improved in rebounding, assists and steals as a sophomore, averaging over five steals a game in the spring. Those impressive stats are going to bode well for her this fall.
Tyonna Bailey Tyonna Bailey 5'10" | CG Montclair Immaculate | 2023 State NJ – SG, Morris Catholic
Bailey had quite the season as a sophomore, nearly posting double-double averages for the second-straight season as while she’s listed as a guard, she has all the makings of a dominant forward, including her 5-10 frame.
She shown a great ability to score from just about anywhere on the floor, including beyond the perimeter. Her rebounding has been great and she’s also a precision passer, though her stats were down in the spring. If she can focus more on passing, that will go a long way.
Along with that, her height has allowed her to be a good shot-blocker on the floor and a nimble defender when it comes to generating turnovers off steals. Bailey will need to hone in much more on her overall game this season, but this year will be a maturing year and another one of dominance for her.
No. 12: Jaylin Hartman Jaylin Hartman 6'2" | SF Blair | 2023 State NJ – SF, Blair Academy
Hartman and Blair didn’t have the chance to play last season, playing one game against The Hun School, so the only high school tape we have on her is from her freshman year, where she showed a lot of signs of future success on the floor.
She’s one of the best rising forwards in the state and standing at 6-2, her height is a massive advantage and she has great agility for a big. It’s going to be exciting watching her with a full season under her belt after the improvements she’s made to her overall game over the past two summers.
We’ve seen a player who is really aggressive in the paint, a strong rebounder and has great court awareness for her teammates. Forwards don’t move as effortlessly in the lane as Hartman does, so this is going to be quite the exciting fall for her.
