RockIt Sports located in Henrico, Virginia has a five week summer league facilitated by Lisa Woodson. The league consists of local public and private high school players, primarily from Henrico and Hanover counties. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 20 minute halves with a running clock. With a limited or no high school season last year, this league is a good opportunity for teammates to reunite and play together prior to the start of the high school season. Each week I will feature some of the standout players in all classes. Below was some notable performers from the first week.
Meredith Atkinson-2023-Hanover High School
Meredith played very consistent this week. She has good IQ, making few mistakes on the court. She is a solid, dependable, pass first lead guard. She is constantly looking for her scorers and get teammates involved. She is a good passer who made several nice interior passes that lead to easy shots for her post players.
Sydney Worsham-2025-Glen Allen High School
Young lady immediately made an impact when she got on court. She is fast, active hands creating a ton of turnovers that turned into scoring opportunities for her team. She was most effective in transition as she can get to the basket herself or create for her teammates. Sydney wins a lot of 50/50 balls, she always seems to find herself around the ball. She has a lot of upside!
Erin makes the game look easy. She has great length on the wing at 5’11. Efficient scorer, knock down shooter and can get to the basket. Defensively, her length creates problems for opponents. She reads the next pass well, got several steals that she took coast to coast. She sees the court well, solid passer and can create for her teammates. She can put up big offensive numbers. Erin should be on every coaches radar.
Finley Weaver-2026-Baily Bridge Middle School
Only a rising 8th grader, she performed well against high school competition. She has good defensive awareness. She has low defensive stance, slides her feet well, good help and recover, closes out on shooters and knows where her player and the ball are. She handled the ball well and knocked down a few shots. Finley has a high basketball IQ and strong fundamentals to build from.
Lila Donnelly-2025-Monacan High School
Athletic lead guard that can score the ball. Lila has a scorer’s mentality. She can get into the paint and finish at the rim through contact and shoot the three off the screen. As she continues to develop and learns different pick and roll reads she will be dangerous. She plays with a lot of confidence and is also capable of playing off the ball.
Cierra McGinlay-2023-Glen Allen High School
Cierra scored the ball well, has improved her ability to attack the basket, finish through contact and not settling for jumpers. She can shoot consistently to the 3pt line, is a willing passer, knows how to feed the post. She got several steals playing the passing lane that led to easy baskets.
Breyona Robinson-2024-Hermitage High School
Athletic combo guard, very active on the floor and looks to get her teammates involved. She can shoot the 3, but is most effective slashing to the basket or in transition where she drew a lot of fouls and finished through contact. Very unselfish player, when she looks to score its within the flow of the game. She does not force shots. Defensively, she has active hands which created a lot of steals.
