Plenty of shoe circuit teams and top independent teams traveled for their last tournament of the AAU season to Texas to earn bragging rights up until next season begins. The 2024 age division might have been my favorite to watch because of all of the young talent that truly stood out above the rest.
2024 5’7″ #1 Sanai Douglas (Sports City U Green)
This girl is a scrappy, hard-working, point guard with high BCS potential in her future. Sanai has flawless handles and can take care of the ball in traffic. She sees the entire floor at all times and can complete the tough pass through lots of hands. Quick off of the dribble with her left or right hand and has the ability to make it tough on the person guarding her to get set when going to the basket. Douglas was oozing with confidence, but not in a cocky way. She knew her skills and knew she could take over any game she wanted. This is a name that you will want to remember in the future!!
2024 6’2″ #5 Breona Hurd (Banshees Sadler 15u)
Breona is a skilled, multi-position athlete that makes he presence known no matter where she is on the court. Rebounds the ball high and makes an effort to find the outlet pass quickly. She is super long and crafty on the defensive end, along with a high-quality vision to spot where the pass will end up and gets there first for the steal/breakaway lay-up. Can hit the mid-range jumper and is also strong enough to finish through hands down low. High basketball IQ!
2024 6’2″ #10 Helen Holley (Sports City U Green)
Holley is absolutely dominant on the offensive end of the floor. She is long, quick, and determined to score. A six-footer that will secure the rebound high on offense or defense and will get whoever is around her cleared out. What impressed me the most about Helen was how she made sure to do the little things right. When a shot went up, she found a body to block out. If her teammate got a quick tip or steal, she hustled back and ran the floor as back up. Not only was she her team’s leading scorer, but she was also an overall good teammate, too.
2024 5’7″ #12 Kendall Braden (Sports City U Green)
Braden is Sports City U’s shooter. If she is open and she pulls up, it’s going in. It doesn’t matter where it is on the court. She has great handles and vision of the floor when she is playing the point guard. Kendall makes the right decision when the ball is in her hands whether it is a shot or a pass, but don’t think that is the limit to her game. She is not afraid to attack the basket and go up strong to draw the foul but if the opportunity is there, she will swiftly dish to the backside effectively. #12 knows the game of basketball down to a ‘T’.
2024 6’0″ #23 Kayl Petersen (Wisconsin Flight 16u)
Peterson is a long, multiple position player that can stroke from anywhere on the court but really stands out above the rest when shooting from behind the three-point line. When you see her take an open look, it is most likely going to drop. She runs the floor well and is able to get herself into a good position on the backside in transition. Kayl can play guard and handle the ball well or she can go down low and post up with the other team’s big and excel at it. She can finish through contact and draw the foul. High D1 potential type player.
2024 6’5″ #35 Mary Carden (Banshees Sadler 15u)
Mary is a 6’5″ center who just recently started playing the game of basketball but has the potential to play D1 if she takes these next few years to really buckle down and work on the fundamentals and necessary skills for a post player. She has the height, so when Carden is able to become a little more confident and strong with the ball, it will be very hard to stop her on the block.
