Abigail Valero-5’6 G
Valero filled it up, pun intended, and she probably was one of the best players at the event that understood the importance of creating her shot but watching her drop jumpers both in the 1 on 1 drill as well as the 5 on 5 was nice, so was observing her understanding how to take the best shot, not to force anything and she did a good job at seeing the floor
Tia Orr-5’6 G
Orr grabbed my attention early because of her eagerness to apply pressure on the defensive end yet she doesn’t overplay or over-commit yet she does a good job of flipping it with some nice moves and making the defender over-commit. She attacked and finish with either hand, also dropped the jumper but seeing her handle the ball under pressure was nice too
Niani Lewis-5’6 G
Lewis has a lot of acronyms in my notes yet one of the biggest is ATH in caps because that athleticism created turnovers be it with quick hands-on defense or understanding how to trap yet it also enabled her to attack and finish after contact using pretty good body control. Her jumper is smooth, the release is fluid yet quick and accurate and she elevates on it
Acadia Edmond-5’3 G
Edmond was under control and played within herself, those are very important things yet so was her “poise under pressure” as she handled it nicely no matter how much heat was applied. She also handled the ball well, made some good passes for assists yet she also attacked off the dribble to finish or dish. Outside shot kept the defender honest
Jazlyn Braithwaite-5’6 G
Braithwaite left me breathless and somewhat speechless watching her attack the rim because she’s strong and goes in powerfully but that strength also makes her an “and one” waiting to happen but get this, she understands how to create contact attacking, that ain’t easy neither was her dropping the jumper with a hand in her face, yet she made it look like it was
Peyton Holmes-5’5 G
I wanted to say “what’s up Holmes” so badly yet she went into detective mode almost immediately and made her presence felt early. She’s a local kid that I hadn’t seen much of before but watching her defend both in the 1 on 1 and the 5 on 5 was enough right there yet her athleticism and attacking off the dribble to finish, not to leave out creating the jumper under pressure solved the mystery
