Continue ReadingThe acronym SG is usually defined as shooting guards yet I have my own verbiage that suits my mindset like I never use any overused or catchy words or phrases that dilute what it should actually mean, motor is a perfect example yet these young ladies gassed the engine up to find ways to put the ball in the basket, so scoring guards works as well
Lanelle Wright-5’6
You can’t go wrong when your name is Wright and she joins countless players with that surname that have just impressed in my 20 years of being in this yet she was also in it as 20 years means “score” well how about multiple ways from Wright. The pull-up is so smooth, she creates her shot so well under pressure and she drops it with ease, that includes in transition on the stop and pop yet she can score off the dribble with either hand and she sees the floor very well
Yasmeen Schmidt–6’0
Schmidt is so long, I gave her an extra inch to be at “the magic number” yet her shot is already magical and she falls into that “I love watching her shoot the ball” category. She creates it nicely, the mid to long-range is consistent and she’s becoming more aggressive attacking the rim from outside. Her upside is also scary, she creates problems now so I definitely can’t wait to see her over the years add even more
Endia Stigal-5’3
Stigal goes hard on both ends, she does it when she creates as well as elevates and she mixes up the offense to keep the defender guessing but her jumper is smooth, nice release and her midrange, a lost art is very consistent as she gets to wherever she wants to drop it with good ball-handling but she also battles for loose balls as well as applies some heat defensively
Journee Johnson-5’8
Johnson is long and athletic, yeah I’ve seen her play the passing lane, block shots and rebound on both ends yet I got a different look as her first step was explosive as she scored and finished with either hand off the dribble after contact yet her length makes her hard to defend when you combine her UPS and the midrange was definitely on at the event as she dropped it numerous times
Tori Oelhrein-5’10
Oelhrein has the size and she utilizes it multiple ways as she can rebound on both ends and score off putbacks from the offensive rebound. She also sees the floor while handling the ball in the open court but she can drop it from midrange with a nice pull-up jumper as well as handle it coast to coast to score but she also did a good job of finishing after contact
Makenna Alexis-5-6
Alexis upside grabbed me as I got my first look at her on the court. Her poise jumped out at me immediately, so did her ability to “play within herself” and not force anything, that in itself is big, so is how she scored “in the flow” but her outside shot is nice, she understands how to set the defender up and drop it
