Last year, players were inconsistent due to unforeseen circumstances, but with more consistent games and practices, expect more consistent play to return. Here are a few players that I am expecting to break out this season.
Rachel Griffin Rachel Griffin 6'3" | C Rossville Christian Academy | 2024 State TN – 6’3- Sophomore – Forward – Fayette Ware High School
Just finishing her Freshman season the, 6’3 forward Rachel Griffin Rachel Griffin 6'3" | C Rossville Christian Academy | 2024 State TN has tremendous upside and plenty of untapped potential. Griffin is a long athlete who can cover a wide range of space before the offense has time to adjust. Her steady production can develop into her being one of the best forwards in TN. As a freshman, she averaged 10points/7rebs, and this is a promising start in a tough middle Tennessee district. She uses her height to punish smaller defenders on the offensive glass and has the court awareness to take advantage of defenses when they play a 2-3 zone. Griffin’s best move is a face-up one dribble direct drive from the free throw line. Although it is simple, it is highly effective for forwards to use. It minimizes dribbles and allows her to use her length and strength to catch defenders off guard.
Garen Haney Garen Haney 5'10" | PF Riverdale | 2022 TN – 5’10 – Senior – Guard – Riverdale High School
Haney, plays for the Middle TN powerhouse Riverdale High School. Haney competes at a calculated pace, but her athleticism gives her opportunities to take advantage of the defense when they fall asleep. The best part about Haney’s game is that it is not flashy. It is so fundamentally sound that you do not realize the damage she’s done until you see the box score. She has a long stride that allows her to push the pace on the fast break for easy baskets, but the three-point shot is her specialty. She is looking to knock down threes and be an instant spark for her team. This year she is looking to shoulder more of the scoring load and being a high-energy player for the Lady Warriors.
Atyia Moss – 5’7- Junior – Guard – Clarksville Academy
Atyia Moss is heading into her junior year looking to pick back up where she left off. As a sophomore Moss, was a consistent driver, looking to draw fouls or finish shots with her off-hand. She didn’t bail out the defense and take contested three-point shots. She showed a pump fake and attacked the basket, but when the defense was lazy she shot the three confidently. She has a lot to develop within her game but she is headed into the right direction.
Ricole Alderson – Senior – Center – Spring Hill High School
Alderson is a player who controls the paint. She rebounds with force and fights for lose rebounds around the rim. Alderson, knows she is stronger than most players and uses that strength to finish through the double team and being a wall on the defensive end. As a junior, she averaged 10.8 rebounds per game, giving her team opportunities to get out in transition and limit opponents to one shot. The most impressive aspect in Alderson’s game is her IQ. She understands her ball handling is limited and instead of trying to go coast to coast she immediately looks for an outlet pass. This year Alderson can average 12+ rebounds if she continues to trend in the right direction.
Meioshe Mason Meioshe Mason 6'3" | C Lebanon | 2022 State TN – Senior – 6’3 – Center – Lebanon High School
Mason is entering her senior year looking to finish her high school career on a dominant note. She s a true center who plays around the basket and defends at a high rate. She is not seeking out blocks, but instead relying heavily on body positioning and straight arms. However, when smaller defenders challenge her, her volleyball skills translate and she’s able to meet the ball at the release point. Her playstyle is perfect for a dominant guard who can penetrate the defense. She can hold positioning for drop-off passes and finish off offensive rebounds.
