Each of these girls stood out above the rest underneath the basket during the 2020-2021 basketball season. Take a look below at some of the major rebounders in the state of Arizona, Class AAAA.
Kamariah Hawkins Kamariah Hawkins 5'11" | SF Yuma | 2022 State AZ – Senior – PHH Prep – 19.8 RPG
To start us off is one of the overall top players in this division, Kamariah Hawkins Kamariah Hawkins 5'11" | SF Yuma | 2022 State AZ . Last season she played her junior year for the Yuma Lady Criminals averaging 19.8 rebounds per game before announcing her transfer to the PHH Prep Fire earlier this summer. With an overall record of 5-13, it was not a shock to all when the transfer became official but it will definitely be a huge loss for the Lady Criminals. Hawkins dominated the defensive boards securing 231 and 125 on the offensive end of the court. She is an all-around solid player that will be an asset to any team that she is a part of in the future.
Britany Kogbara Britany Kogbara 5'11" | PF Peoria | 2023 State AZ – Junior – Peoria HS – 17.4 RPG
Britany Kogbara Britany Kogbara 5'11" | PF Peoria | 2023 State AZ is another returner that seems to be all over the charts for our “Top Returning” series of articles in the Arizona Class AAAA. This one, in particular, will highlight her rebounding ability compared to the others this lengthy, five-foot-eleven center went up against. Britany averaged 17.4 rebounds per game for a total of 296 on the season. 167 of the rebounds came from the defensive end while 129 came from the offensive. This shows that she is not a one-sided basketball player and that she makes an effort on both sides of the floor to make the play for her team.
Jayla Scott Jayla Scott 6'1" | PF Vista Grande | 2022 State AZ – Senior – Vista Grande HS – 12.6 RPG
As a junior last season, Jayla Scott Jayla Scott 6'1" | PF Vista Grande | 2022 State AZ really made a name for herself in a variety of areas, one of those being her ability to rebound the basketball. Six-foot-one, captain for the Lady Spartans averaged 12.6 rebounds per game and ended the year with a total of 189 for her team. Jayla is a leader for her teammates and gives bits of help as a coach on the court. I am looking forward to seeing how she uses all of the experiences that she has had over the last few seasons in high school and summer ball to come out with a bang one last time.
Taylor Brock – Junior – Mingus HS – 10.4 RPG
As a six-foot-one sophomore last season for the Mingus Lady Marauders, Taylor Brock was one of the leading rebounders in the class AAAA. With a total of 146 rebounds over the course of the year and averaging 10.4 RPG, Taylor is going to be one to watch for throughout the next couple of years. Of the 146 rebounds, 60 were defensive, and 86 were on the offensive side of the floor. Brock is one of the few players on this list that brought down more offensive rebounds than defensive during the 2020-2021 high school basketball season. This, in particular, shows the pride that she takes in having the ball in her and her teammates’ hands. Returning to the court as an upperclassman in the next few weeks, will Taylor be able to bring the same energy to the court?
Rebecca Arave – Junior – Lee Williams HS – 10.3 RPG
Rebecca Arave will be a junior this year for the Lee Williams Lady Volunteers after coming off of an outstanding sophomore season and has been a huge part of her team’s success over the past couple of years. She led the Grand Canyon region in rebounds during her freshman year and has continued to do that throughout last season, as well. Arave averaged 10.3 rebounds per game and 11.9 points per game as an underclassman. 94 of the rebounds came from the defensive end while she brought down 61 on the offensive end for a total of 155 on the year. Rebecca is a scrappy player that is not afraid to make her presence known.
