The event featured some of the top talent in CA as well as some from out of state as well. The tournament featured a 17U division and a 15U division with the winners of each getting to attend the Sparks game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday night.
I was able to attend the event all day and here’s a look at some of the top standouts of the weekend.
1. Rylei Waugh Rylei Waugh 5'6" | PG Westchester | 2023 State CA – Westchester 2023
Waugh is one of the better floor leaders in SoCal and should take another step forward as a junior. Her ball-handling is solid and she really knows how to quarterback a team. Despite the beach breeze throughout the day, her improved shot was one of the things that stood out to me. She can be lethal from three-point range. She’s quick too and can get into the lane against most defenses. Able to hit defenders with pull-up jumpers. Good finisher at the rim too.
2. Jazmyne Shamburger – LACES 2025
An incoming freshman, this was my first time watching Shamburger play. She’s a wing who can handle the ball a little bit, especially on the break. She dribbles with her head up and looks to see who is out in transition with her. She can finish at the rim. Her handle can definitely get a little tighter, but she has the skills. Unselfish pass first player. Defensively, she can lock up and she gets deflections and steals.
3. Aariah Roa – Brentwood 2024
This was my first time seeing Roa play in person and she really stood out as a solid point guard prospect. She ran the team’s offense really well and is an elite ball-handler. She has great court vision; she sees the whole floor and finds her teammates. Good drive and dish player; she finds cutters along the dunker spot. She’s a good three-point shooter especially in catch and shoot situations. A good defender who picks up full court.
4. Imari Berry Imari Berry 5'10" | SG Clarksville | 2024 State TN – Clarksville (TN) 2024
Berry has a really good frame for a wing prospect. She’s long and athletic and uses that to finish strong at the rim. She’s very comfortable with the ball in her hands. She’s has an array of offensive moves. She can handle the ball and dish to her teammates. She can hit defenders with step-back jumpers and pull-ups. She shoots threes with consistency. She can also go coast coast on the break and finish. She has some real high upside.
