One of the latest offseason events that took place as the Carolina 100 – an opportunity for lots of girls basketball talents from inside and outside of South and North Carolina to sharpen their skills in front of coaches and scouts.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were also on hand at Carolina Courts in Concord for the festivities. Here is a look at a few from the Tar Heel state’s Class of 2022 that turned in impressive performances.
Zarriah White – Monroe HS – White provides an exceptional paint presence for the Redhawks. She is listed as both a power forward as well as a center. White has the ability to come from out of nowhere and haul in rebounds as well as convert on high-percentage shot opportunities. She makes it difficult to score on her as well as her defensive presence enables her to be a constant threat for blocks and steals. One can tell that she has worked aplenty on getting better at her game over the years. White will be one of the many senior names to look out for in North Carolina hoops this upcoming season.
Kayla Friend Kayla Friend 6'0" | PF South Central | 2022 NC – South Central HS – As any coach will tell you, there are aspects to the game that can be coached and those that cannot. Height is one of them and as she is listed at an event 6 feet. In addition to an imposing presence because of said height, Friend will make plays on defense then get out in transition with a great deal of quickness to convert on layups. She is a potent scorer as well as a rebounder. Friend is a dual sport athlete as one can see her excel on the basketball court as well as on the soccer pitch. She recently received an offer from Carolina University.
Chloe Richmond Chloe Richmond 5'2" | PG Southern Durham | 2022 NC – Southern Durham HS – Richmond is rich with talent. She has evolved into a proficient scorer that can also get her team its fair share of rebounds. Richmond is extremely adept at making the extra pass and there is a good chance that if she is open for a 3-point try that she will attempt and sink that trey. Her high basketball IQ enables her to be defensively aware and always ready to make plays. Richmond will also convert on a number of plays near the basket as well. She is one of the many guards that has impressed throughout the summer and Carolina Top 100 was no exception.
Nyla Brown – Millbrook HS – The Wildcats finished with a mark of 13-2 this past season and with Brown returning to wear Millbrook’s colors for her senior campaign, there is plenty of reason to believe the team’s winning ways will continue in 2021-22. Brown brings plenty of energy on both the offensive and defensive glass. She creates plenty of problems for opponents on the defensive end and is willing to play a number of positions on the court – including small forward. In addition to playing for Millbrook, she has also done work on the travel circuit with Carolina Flames. She recently received an offer from Meredith College.
