The Future looks bright for San Diego County girls basketball, and if the Creme of the County Rising Star game was any indication of what we are going to see what’s coming out of our region, then we have to be excited. It was a very exciting contest between the Black & White squads of the 2025 & 2026 classes. It was a one point game going into the 4th quarter with the Black Team leading. Then ’25 Alyssa Otero from Mira Mesa High School exploded for seven points in the quarter and Anijah Stowers ’26 from Spring Valley Middle School pitched in with 6 points in the quarter put the White Team away. The Black Team held the White Team to 4 points in the 4th quarter. The White Team’s 6’0 Hailey Whitman class of ’25 from Christian High School led all scorers with 17 points. Ivory Seals ’25 Mira Mesa High School finished with 16 points for the White Team. All in all it was a very competitive game and the girls put on a great show for the fans. Alissa Belen 5’1 PG from Orangewood Academy brought home the MVP Honors, leading the Black Team to victory. Belen led the Black team 12 points, 5 assists & 2 steals. Anijah Stowers captured the All-Showcase Team award for the Black Team and Hailey Whitman ’25 won the same award for the White Team.
5 STANDOUTS FROM THE RISING STARS GAME
#1. Hailey Whitman 6’0 Wing Christian High School
Hailey is a long athletic wing, with great potential… Whitman will probably emerge as the top player in the county for the class of 2025 with the proper guidance and development. She has all of the tools to be great. Hailey dominated the game on both ends of the floor, we saw her block shots and rebound on the defensive end. On the offensive end we saw her drive to the basket for buckets and we saw her crash the offensive boards for put backs. Whitman has a nice mid-range game and can knock down the 3 point shot as well. She’s definitley one to keep an eye on in this class.
#2. Ivorii Seals 5’8 Forward Mira Mesa High School
Seals showed the ability to get to the basket and get to the foul line. Ivorii plays with lots of intensity and is very competitive, she seems to never take plays off or let her opponent get the best of her. She has a strong frame and will cause trouble for smaller defenders because of her strength and will cause trouble for bigger defenders with her quickness. If Seals keeps developing and stay hungry she will have great opportunity to play at the next level.
#3. Samara Diggs 6’0 Forward Horizon Prep
Samara was solid in the Rising Stars game, Diggs has a very good ability to finish around the basket with either hand. She had a great game on both ends of the floor gobbling up rebounds and making the opposing team adjust their shots when driving to the basket.
#4. Anijah Stowers 5’10 Forward Spring Valley Academy
Stowers played an outstanding game, she was very aggressive on the offensive end, trying to make a play for herself or others every time that she touched the ball. At 5’10 and looking like she still has a few more inches her Anijah will be a very imposing force on the court, even though she is still raw in some areas of her game. She has swag and seems to want to get better, so this will be a kid that we will be looking out for.
#5. Alissa Belen 5’1 PG Orangewood Academy
Alissa is a true PG and floor leader, this kid controlled the game offensively and created shots for her teammates. Belen proved that she has an all-around game, along with dropping dimes, she showed that she could score from all 3 levels. She has nice range from the three, great mid-range game and the ability to the rack. This kid was fun to watch and she also brought home the MVP AWARD for the Rising Stars Game.
