In the last few weeks things started to pick up a little bit, but the last five days has seen a flurry of verbal commitments as we inch closer and closer to the National Letter of Intent signing Day in a couple months.
The number two ranked senior in the state, Zahirah Walton Zahirah Walton 5'11" | SG Kentlake | 2022 State WA , announced her commitment to George Mason of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Walton, who confirmed to PGH Washington that she has transferred from Eastside Catholic High to Kentlake High School, will fit in really well in the Atlantic 10 style of basketball. At 5’11, she brings versatility, toughness and a nose for the ball. George Mason is coming off of a 3-19 season, but newly hired Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis looks to turn the program around and Walton’s commitment is a great push in the right direction.
Ellensburg High School’s Dylan Philip Dylan Philip 5'8" | CG Ellensburg | 2022 State WA is the top rated combo guard in the state and she took to social media to tell the world she is committed to Montana State. The 5’8 guard is strong, aggressive and athletic as a downhill scorer with the ball in her hands. She also competes on the defensive end. Montana State is regularly towards the top of the Big Sky Conference and they hope Philip can help the program continue its winning ways.
The next two commits are the 6’0 Deaver twins of Sumner High School. Catelyn Deaver Catelyn Deaver 6'0" | PF Sumner | 2022 State WA and Alyson Deaver Alyson Deaver 6'0" | PF Sumner | 2022 State WA will be playing their college basketball at Dixie State in St. George, Utah. Dixie State just recently made the transition to Division 1 and will look to the Deavers to help their transition in competing to be top competitors in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Catelyn is a strong, physical and gritty competitor who does a lot of damage in the paint. Alyson is a great success story after multiple knee injuries to still commit to play college basketball. She is a double-double threat, she finishes around the basket and she rebounds well.
