A lot of high school basketball players in Michigan deserve to celebrate the work that they out into the game. This Labor Day Day, we will look at some of the hardest working players in the state.
Alaina Diaz Alaina Diaz 5'7" | CG Hudsonville | 2022 State MI (2022, CG, Hudsonville)
The time, effort, and energy that Diaz devotes to athletics is amazing in it’s own right. She’s worked to make herself great at everything important to her. It’s an honor and a privilege to watch her over the last few years. Diaz, in my opinion, has worked her way into Miss Basketball conversations.
Amanda Roach Amanda Roach CG Hartland | 2022 State MI (2022, CG, Hartland)
Roach just has a different level of grind. Like, if I went as hard as I could in a basketball game, I could never match her. It’s just a level that most people don’t have. That makes Roach a really tough matchup for opponents to deal with.
Lexi Boyke Lexi Boyke 6'1" | PF Frankenmuth | 2023 State MI (2023, PF, Frankenmuth)
Boyke has put in so much work behind the scenes to become the player that she is right now. She had a goal for her game and battled to expand who she was as a player. Boyke worked so hard that she’s now committed to Central Michigan.
Rachel Williams Rachel Williams 5'8" | PF Canton | 2023 State MI (2023, PF, Canton)
If you saw Williams play on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit this grassroots season, you know exactly why she’s on this list. It doesn’t matter who her opponent is, Williams will challenge them physically with grit in the paint.
Na’Kiya Bonner (2024, PG, Detroit Edison)
Bonner just loves the game of basketball, and that includes the hustle it takes when the gym is empty. We can see all of her highlight reels, but those are made with her hard work when nobody is watching.
Lily Zeinstra Lily Zeinstra 6'0" | PG Byron Center | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Byron Center)
Zeinstra is like a wizard, always trying to perfect her spell. She’s already a great shooter, but she will relentlessly work for improvement. That’s just an example of head down and go to work approach to the game of basketball. It’s part of what makes her as great as she is.
